Cases and covers

Some dios can fit in a case or on a shelf unit with glass doors. But some are destined to sit on display and still need to be protected from dust, dirt and little fingers. I’d like to hear some solutions from experienced dio builders. Museums and schools have budgets for custom cases and overpriced Lucite/Lexan prebuilts, but what about small-time commission builds? thx

Display cases aren’t that pricey to build. I just buy sheet plexiglass, cut it and glue it into a box to fit over the diorama.

Yup. I do what Bronto does, except I go to the local plastics place and have them build it. I haven’t spent over $40 yet, and that’s gotten me ones as large as 15"X15" by 22" tall.

the question is

will it be a display case to show off the model or more of a clear dust cover to protext the model?

if it is to present the model than it needs to look really nice. my friend made this one and the bottom has clamps that can be turned to take the top off

i would not do this for wvery model but i have some, if they turn out nice, will be displayed in the case. i have another friend who builds 1/700 boats and he makes his own cases/dust covers.

That does look nice. Wayne, any chance your friend would be willing to share plans for how to build something like that?

Chris

hi chris. he built this a few years ago for me from scrap in his workshop. he scrrathbuids wood ships. he doesn’t have any plans for this, just thought about it and did it. sorry.

Heh, that’s when you know somebody knows their stuff, when they can do it in their head like that. No prob, just thought I’d ask.
