Cars (and Trucks) 2024-25

That’s a pretty incredible looking finish on a scale car, @ctruss53. What a vast gulf in process and goal from a weathered armor piece! Thanks for including all the details too.

I needed to go wash my hands after seeing that rusty Plymouth so I didn’t wreck my white T-shirt! Talk about a convincing effect.

@68GT the lemon-yellow plug wires really add a ton of life to that powerplant.

Thanks,

I have some more progress to show.

@68GT that’s the kind of cluttered bench that means WORK is getting done! Love to see it.

I’m still deep into the oil paint rendering over here. Haven’t started on the turret yet but I think it’ll be the most fun part.

Great weathering and color modulation.

68GT, looks like you got a chop shop going on there.
Toimi, your armored car is looking nice as well. Looks like you are getting close to the finish line.

Okay, I did not get as much done this week as I planned. I guess any progress moves me forward. So here are the pics:

Have the tires flattened for one side and have replacements for the other side.

Here I just have them set with the car to check if the flatness is okay.

And here they are attached and when I noticed the front tire floating in the air. I can use this for the Dio that I am planning.
Next week plan on working on the Ford a little more.

Hey, any progress is good progress. I love the deflated tires by the way.

That looks real, great job

Thanks, one problem that I just thought of. If the wheel is going to be jacked up, would it still have the bulge? Would the tire retain that shape if it had been sitting like that for years?

I clicked on that like to the 34 AWG wire. It showed up as Canadian Amazon, so I logged in so it would go to American Amazon. And of course I can’t order it.

Any chance you could buy that set of wire for me and ship it down to me???

:innocent:

@NucMedTech Actually the tire would retain that bulged out shape if it was flat a long time, but most people would probably think it’s weird.

Maybe put a small 12 volt tire inflator on the hood to show at least someone tried to fill it.
And @NucMedTech, tires will actually develop flat spots if left parked somewhere for long time and you can hear it when you start to drive. As the tire warms up it eventually softens and the noise goes away.

There’s a thought, maybe even a potable tank like this.

Excellent ideas. The plan is for the wheels to be changed all together. Idea is, the guys knew the tires were no good, so they are changing them with others just to be able to get the car on the car hauler. That is what i am using the redline tires for.

I think it would depend on the ambient temperature. My guess is no, it would not retain the shape.

Cheers,
Mark

I’ve bought enough cars that have been sitting a long time and the answer is yes that they will retain the shape. Watch a few videos on YouTube where they pull a car out of the woods or barn.

Me on the other hand just laid down some Model Master Grabber Blue enamel on the 68 GT500. Lighting sucks so I’ll have to take more pics.

Wow, that is a nice color!

My weekend update, the plan is to work a little more on the '53 Ford. I have started work on the chassis, plus I started painting the body.

I was going to use stock wheels with the white wall tires, but; since I am going with the big custom engine I thought sport tires would be better. I have a set of Goodyear eagle tires that I think would be better.

I really like that color for the Ford pick up and your plans for it’s tires too.

I’ll pile on with @68GT here. I’ve had to air up enough old trailer and implement tires over the years to know that if it’s been sitting for a year or more on that flat, it will definitely retain the flat/bulge when jacked up. However, it might look odd on a model, if not clearly intentional.

That’s blue and a half right there. Very nice color and application.

And that green! What is that color called, pray tell?
