caproni ca-311

i picked up the italeri 1/72 scale version for a song at my lhs 8 bucks

i looked around a little for info on the kit and if anyone had built it but no luck yet

thank for any help here

Durr;

Is this the Italeri kit? These kits have been around for about 20 years. They get re-issued every so often. I haven’t built one myself but from the other kits of the same era and company, I would say it has hardly any interior. It may be hard to find build information on this kit.

The camoflage patterns suggested by the kit may be suspect. There has been alot of changes on the information concerning Italian aircraft camoflage, much of what was previously thought to be true has been found to be false. For one thing it was found that B&W film that was red biased faded out the red brown portion of the camoflage. Some colors, particiarly the use of light green have not been confirmed. The link below is to a good series on Italian camoflage.

Jonathan Thompson’s “Italian Civil and Military Aircraft 1935-1943” has information on this aircraft, but it is so long out of print. I was lucky to discover a copy of it in a used book store 15 years ago. If you want copies of this information send me an email.

thanks

Hi DURR…

The Caproni Ca/311 was used as a liason aircraft, light bomber, ambulance etc… by the Regia Aeronautica in all theaters of the Italian front so there are many color liveries for it…

This site gives you accurate Italian colors of WW2.
http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/italienww2_e.htm

This Russian site is full of color profiles, here is the Ca/311 etc page…

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/b/401/32/0

and there are many sites in google, check the Swedish air force sites, they
used this aircraft for many years.

I have it in my stash of plans and maybe I’ll take a shot and make one during
the year, making the clear glass cabin got me thinking if I can vacuform it right!!!
…I built the kit about 15 years ago and enjoyed it very much, hope
you do too…

Gera

Falcon had the vac canopy for that kit as well. I don’t knoe if it still available.

RCR produced a PE set for the similar Ca 313/314. Pacific Coast Models has it for one.
