Canopy mask question Tamiya 1/48 F4U1-A Corsair

Question folks,
I’m having trouble finding a canopy mask for the Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1A Corsair. Masks for the Hobby Boss version are easily found but not for Tamiya. Is there a difference? It would seem to me they would be the same as they are based on the same plane. Is there a substitute, like using the mask for a D model? Or am I just going to have to do it the old-fashioned way and mask it myself?
Please advise and thank you in advance!

I had a quick look on Scalemates…

Here’s the first hit that came up… It’s advertised to work for the 1A and 1D, but I don’t really know the difference between the two variants and whether that affects the canopy dimensions

But if you scroll down the bottom on this link [see Scheme (Masks)], it looks like there are many offerings:

Thanks pr154, and keavdog. I saw those in my previous searches and was hoping for something shipped from the good ole USA. And I wasn’t sure the D model masks would work. Ultimately I went with the kitmask version but the shipping was more than the product. Oh well, you can’t take it with you!

I have both the Tamiya F4U-1A and 1D. The 1A main canopy has two braces towards the top of the canopy whereas the 1Ds main canopy, the braces are deleted.
With that being said, the 1D also did use the canopy with the braces early on.
One would assume that the canopies would be the same size/dimensions even though they are feom different manufacturers but having experience with other aircraft, no they are not.
However, I have a feeling that the HobbyBoss’s canopies would be a tad bigger.
So I’d say go with the Hobby Boss’s masks and if you have to trim, so be it. And if by chance the masks are smaller, add additional tape or liquid mask.
I’ve done the latter with good results. Hope that this helps Mr B

On a side note, I have noticed that when a manufacturer releases a “new” kit like the F4U Corsair, it seems like all aftermarket companies jump ship, drop their product(s) for the older release(Tamiya) and make everything for the newer.
Case in point, it seems like all aftermarket goodies for the Hasegawa P-400/39, P-40 series, are harder to find.
It’s out there but you need to some searching.

Happy Modeling,
Mike
