canopy interior frame idea

The old paint the interior then exterior color method works great on closed canopies, but on 1/48 + opened hoods didn’t look “real” enough to me. Then I tried automotive pinstriping tape. Heres what seems to work. … Future, mask, & paint the outside framework like normal ; let dry. Stick an xtra-long piece of tape on plexiglass , scuff lightly w/ fine sandpaper, & paint it the interior color. A light drybrushing helps. Measure the width of your frame, & cut a strip of tape just a “hair” thiner. Referance how the real frame went together, cut, & burnish down. It’s VERY sticky tape, so take your time & it needs no glue to hold it. (Try it on a spare canopy first. ) It gives a good 3-D flat-painted metal look . Hope it helps. Any other ideas out there?

Thanks for the tip. The other problem I have with painting the interior canopy frame is that the clear part between painted exterior frame and the painted interior frame shows. So sometimes I don’t paint anymore the interior frames especially on closed canopies. Any ideas on this also?
