Canadian Air Force Jets

Hi

I’ve got a collexction of IAF fighters and so it’s now time for a more peaceful collection - The Canadians!

Any good, recessed panel lined kits of the Sabre, Starfighter, Canuck, Freedom fighter, or Hornet?

Any good decal sheets? Natural Metal still scares me so I’m looking for camo’ed birds!

Thanks

GRS

Hi GRS,
I’m sure when all the Canadians wake up they will throw lots of ideas at you. Doing mostly post war Brit birds myself, so nothing springs to mind just now, apart from the Avro Arrow of course, so come you conspiracy bods, who cancelled it and WHY ?
As for peaceful, hmmm ever been to a hockey game ? [#toast][8D]
All the best,
Mick C.

Hasegawa for the F-86 and F-104, the only 1/48 F-101 is Monogram, Classic Airframes for the F-5. Academy also make the F-86. So far as I know the Canuck (and Arrow, but be sure to get the newer kit, not the older one) are only from Hobbycraft.

And of course there is the Classic Airframes DH Vampire Mk3 from the Mk5 kit.

For good decals, try Leading Edge. They’ve got sheets for the Air Force Anniversaries for the 1/48 scale CF-18 that looks AWESOME! I picked up a really cheap Panda kit because I think the decals will override any problems with the kit. Although…the kit doesn’t look half bad when I opened it.

Try this: http://www.lemdecal.com/

Hobbycraft (of Canada) makes Canadian planes, of course. They’re the only manufacturer of kits of the CF-100 Canuck, CF-105 Arrow, & CL-41 Tutor. The kits are decent - not as good as some manufactuers out there, but with a little work, a really nice model can be made.

The Hobbycraft CT-114 Tutor needs some work all right! This was done using Wayne Hui’s resin set which is very well done.

Check out Belchersbits.com, he’s got some nice Canadian stuff there.

oops, it’s www.belcherbits.com

Hey - My favorite livery[:D]

Hasagawa makes 1/48 Sabre, Hornet and Starfighters in Canadian markings. They are good detail with recessed panel lines and good fit. For the Canuck your limited to the Hobbycraft kit. I think [%-)] it has recessed lines but is poor fit. As for a CF-5, if you can find the Monogram kit, it has raised lines otherwise your looking for the Classic airframes kit and it’s pricey. Thats if you can find either of them. The guys covered the decals pretty well.

If your looking for 1/72 chough choke! I have no idea what’s availible.

Acadamy has a very nice T-33 in 1/48th scale. Check out Canmilair decals for Canadian Military decals. Now for a cold Molsons XXX, heh!!!

The littler scale means I can pack more of em on to the shelf!

I’m looking for 1:72 scale RCAF jets and decals

I just picked up a Hobbycraft CF-18, and I wanted to shoot myself. Last year I did their Avro Arrow, and swore that I would never do their stuff again, Then I fround a $5 1/72 Hornet, AARRRGGGHHHHH. They are a Canadian company who specializes in Canadian planes, BUT for crying out loud show a sense of pride, and beef up the quaility. The package claimed “engraved panel lines”, Yeah on the mold. Oh well stop ranting.

Was actually tempted to get the Hobbycraft F18. Also saw it cheap!

The Esci/Italeri F18 has Canadian Markings but also has Berlin walls for panel lines. Anyone know of a decent F18A that has recessed panel lines?

How does the Academy F86F compare to the Hobbycraft Sabres - I have to add a Sword to the collection but I also want to remain sane!

The Academy F-86 is a fantastic kit. I haven’t dealt with Hobbycraft’s Sabre, but based on my experience with Hobbycraft, it won’t come close to being as nice as Academy’s. Speaking of Canadian Sabres, I sent you an email about some decals that I have if you’re interested.

Can I make the Academy 1/72 F86F into a camo Sabre? Natural metal scares me? I’m not sure how the US variants correspond with the respective Canadian Marks.

To clarify my previous post, I meant a camo’d RCAF sabre.

Yes, you can. No problem. I’m not sure where to find markings in 72 for it though. Hopefully you can find some Leading edge markings for it. I wouldn’t worry too much about the diffrent marks. In 72 scale, it works out to less than a 1/16 in wing span. Just don’t put any wing fences (vertical pieces) on top of the wings.
