IIRC, they were either white (missiles) or OD. Some air-launched guided weapons were the same grey as were the aircraft (Ghost Grey). Interesting point: The tail fins of bombs were separate parts and they often had a slightly different shade of OD on them.
If you’re talking about the colored bands on the ordnance, that’s a different issue.
The colored bands are different for what the ordinance is used for isn’t it? Training rounds, live rounds, rocket motors, etc…
This might help. Scroll down to the colored charts. The first tables are for Soviet weapons.
Do a google search for MIL-STD-709C. This is the instruction that covers the stipes and marking for all orndance/ammunition used in the U.S. You should be able to find it easily, it was the first thing when I looked. This also covers some of the general colors that are used on ordnance. For specific color it is best to refer to a reference. In general, GP Bombs are dark olive drab, 34079 or Dark ghost grey. Missiles are either white or dark ghost grey, depending on the era you are focusing on. Rocket launchers are white as are cluster bombs (i.e. the Rockey and apam) the Gator (CBU-78) is dark ghost grey, this is USN colors, for AF they will be dark green.
Another reference for ordnance/ammunition colors is NAVAIR 11-1-117. It deals with USN ordnance colors. Not sure if you can find it on the web or not.
Thanks for the help everyone.
