So In Other Words I Am Gonna Be Painting A Tank In Tamiya OD Acrylic But I Want To Add Weathering Effects.I Saw Ak Has Chipping In Arcrylic ANd Wondered If I Can Use It.And Do I Need Any White Spirt?
As far as AK weathering effects on Tamiya basecoat, yes that is fine, they will not affect a fully cured acrylic basecoat.Whitespirits may be used also. As far as the chipping,i’m not sure what you mean, with AK chipping fluid,it simply takes the place of hairspray in the Hairspray Technique, for that it would be a fully cured basecoat, enamel or acrylic, spay the AK chipping fluid, followed by the top coat of acrylic, which would be chipped with water to show wear.
I think that you will in fact need to experiment. That paint has not been out and distributed to users for more that acouple months so I think that there are no practical users to answer you. You need to blaze a trail for us all!
The answer is yes, and no you don’t need white spirits.
I have used the AK heavy chipping fluid. You really have to start the chipping right after the top coat is dry or it will not “Chip”.
I would strongly advise doing this on a piece of sheet styrene or an old model first if this is your first time. You don’t want to ruin a new model.
There is a definite learning curve to getting this where you want it.
