Camoflauge

How do you guys get that fabulous German camo pattern. Do you mask and airbrush it, free style it, or hand paint it. Also, do you thin the colors to give it that faded look or do you spray the armor with a over coat of something. I’m currently working on Tamiya’s Flak 88. Did they paint the whole gun in the camo pattern or just the shield and the barrel.

2nd thing, what would be the right color for a M26 in Europe, Olive drab looks to dark and I can’t find the right one.

Thanks, David

I don’t do any armour, but I’ve seen plenty of how to’s on the subject of camo. Most of what I have seen, people use varieties of mask. The most common is silly putty. Use it as you would tape. It also gives a softer edge which, to me, appears more realistic. I do mostly aircraft so I opt mostly for freehand patterns. Otherwise, I will mask.

Here is an example of a freehand pattern on this 190.

Thanks for the help, I think I’ll mask using the silly putty method.

I’ll second the silly putty method, I just tried it for the first time a few weeks ago - it was a lot easier than tape and came out great.
