I’am looking for some help with painting camo,with a brush.
And weathering. Any ideas will be helpful.

What kind of camo and from when, what nation, vehicle or uniforms, etc. We need a little more info in order to give you good answers. Your question is a little broad.

Looking for tips on LAV-AT anti tank veh and a Alligator lvt[a]5.
I’am looking for a real looking paint and weathering.
I do not have a airbrush.
The alligtor from wwII U.S.A and the lav is canada pres.

Best method for soft edge camo is still an airbrush or you can get descent results with a spray can and maks for a hard edge camo if you are careful. If you must use a brush, a flat, wide brush is best. Also, enamel paints work better than acrylics as well. For the LAV paint scheme you could visit www.dnd.ca and view the photos there. Or I will assume by your signature line that you are with EME you should be able to talk to some of the V Tech’s or Mat Tech’s and obtain reference material there. Any basic shop has a copy of the CF Manual for camouflage applications. Each vehicle follows the same pattern. For colour choices use Tamiya’s NATO colours Green, Brown and Black.

If you can not locate any reference through the Tech’s pay a visit to either the RCD website or the RCR website. Each has photo’s as well.

Additionally, for the Alligator. If you wanted to do something different you could pose it as a 79th Armoured Reg’t troop transport for Canadians in Northwest Europe.

Thank you a lot Gregory. we are right I was a mat.tech for 5 years.
I will look the sites up and go form there.
Since I’am wrighting do you know where I can get a 1960 to 1970 wrecker?

I assume you are talking 1:1 scale? If so I have seen a few of the old reliable 5 ton Wreckers for sale.

If you are looking for a 1:35 scale wrecker there are a few options.

  1. Find the REVELL Military Wrecker Kit (eBay is your best bet) it is out of production but pops up every now and again and it is really close to the 5 ton

  2. Find the REVELL M.A.S.H. Troop Transport - Use the chassis, cab etc and scratchbuild the deck and boom

  3. Find the ACADEMY Bigfoot truck kit (U.S. Truck but still convertable) and there was an article in FSM not too long ago showing the conversion to a wrecker.

I will wait for your reply and advise further.

DONT LISTEN TO THE ONLY AN AIRBRUSH CAN HOHA!!
its easy to make soft camo without an airbrush…if you brush off the edges with a wet brush or just while its drying with a tissue. you can also soften the edges with drybrushing the edges with the base color
weatering…depends on the weather in your dio…winter- drybrush with white
summer- a small amount of yellow or a very small amount of white

It’s for my fathers wall,he was a vech.tech reg. force.

Double D thanks for the tip.
I did find one othere way after the paint has dryed, take some wet dry sand paper[very fine]
and lightly sand the hole thing. Be carfull.

The MLVW is an “easy” conversion with the M.A.S.H. kit. So pick up two and visit the websites.

As for myself. Started out with the Infantry in 1988 remustered to Supply Tech in 1993.
Fractured my spine in four places in 1997. Diagnosed by the Army two years later. Medical release in 2000. It’s amazing how that works. You go in with a legitimate problem and say “Hey 'Doc this really hurts and my spine forms an ‘S’ when I stand” and the reply comes back “Aw don’t worry about it trooper…it’s just a muscle spasm here have a little CEPACOL and get rid of that scratchy throat feeling”

CEPACOL - The throat lozenge that cures everything from Traumatic Amputation to Trench Foot.

Or better yet was the thrice daily diet of “Airborne Smarties” otherwise known as 600mg IBUPROFEN…mmmmm yummy yummy!

Any way I am glad to be still walking and modelling. I miss my brothers in the field but definitely not the CEPACOL or AIRBORNE SMARTIES! [yuck]

Let me know if you need more info. I still have contact with some folks in Petawawa at 2 SVC and in the RCR and RCD lines as well. They usually provide the best photos too.

Still beg to differ. I’l put one of my airbrushed camo models up against a brush painted one any day. The airbrushed one will look better. By the way, I have been building models longer than you have been alive. I think I know what I am talking about.

The AFV Club M35A2 is a better starter kit to make an MLVW. The vehicle is an M35A2 with different wheels. The M34 has a totally diffrent bed. Also, the MASH kit is about 50 years old and is very poor and toy-like. Best bet would be to get the AFV Club M35A2 and use all of it, with the wheels from the M34 and some other tires that look more like the MLVW ones.

Gregory I now about cepacol. I wrecked my knee in Toontown and got thats right CEPACOL,
and a med. release in 1997.
Beside that I have been set on fire 9 times.
Thats the price you pay for being a mat.tech.
