Camo/paint options for my Panzer IV Ausf. H/J

Hi guys, dose anyone have pics or an idea for what I can do? I was going to do a basic Dark Yellow, Red Brown and Dark Green camo, but was wondering if there was something different I can do.

Thanks for the help, Anthony.

EDIT: I was thinking something like this…

Well, here’s a start.

So what I said above, that would not work?

Sorry Anthony, I got nothing for those links. The one that Andrew gave you is on my fave list.

umm for the H, you could do a green and yellow cammo pattern, for the J, you’d pretty well have no option but to do the Red, Green Yellow thing man, according to my references, “Squadron/Signal- Panzer IV in Action”.

Thanks guys,

CDNTanker25, the box art says Panzer IV Ausf. H/J, which one is it? Is it both? Which one of you options would best suit my Panzer?

Thanks again.

Anthony, The pz v H would have been seen in numerous colors, the most popular being dark yall, dark green, and dark yello dark green, red brown. You alo would have seen them in all dark yellow and probably a few with just red brown in top of the dark yellow.

It really depends on the Unit and time frame of your build.

If the instructions say h/j IU beleive that means it gives you a choice.

So would it be o.k. if I put it into winter camo? With Dark Yellow, Dark Green and Red Brown under it?

Cause I also found this guy that did it…

BTW: I just wanted to do somthing different than the standered Yellow, Green and Red.

BTW#2: This is the kit I have…

Thanks again.

the kit he built was an AUSF H… you can tell by the exhaust pipes… and the Turret traverse which was eliminated and changed to a 2 speed hand gear. That’s really the only diff between the H and the J… Later J’s had a differently cast rear Idler, but SOME h’s used it. The real only difference between the H and the J was the elimination of the Turret Traverse… they needed the materials for other things at that stage of the war as the J came out pretty well near the end!

it’s not a bad looking kit really, if you do do a J… try to get the Thoma Shields, they were a mesh anti bazooka skirt… they look pretty cool!

Well the kit instructions give no options for the J or H, just to put it together. But what abouth the camo? Is what I want to do possible?

yes. it will be fine if you put a whitewash on top of it. As long as it isnt panzer gray it will be fine!

Reb’s right… I’ll email you a pic of a couple Panzer J’s

Thanks guys.

So they did not come in Panzer/German grey?

no they did NOT come in Panzer Grey that much is certain.

No they did NOT come in panzer gray. I believe they stopped that somewhere around the ausf E. But yours is later so ya, what you want to do is fine.

i did this color scheme on my imperial pz3h and it looks cool but i hate the skirts because they block out ALL the detail of the tank ( although they help at the same time because i lost one of the return roller wheels )

as for your pz4, i vote for this one although i don’t know if it’s the right model:

the winter whitewash is cool and all but always looks kinda boring, to me at least. just an opinion.

That’s probably Academy’s reissue using Tamiya old panzer IV molds, which will make it an ausf H. Achtung Panzer has some detailed info for the updates done from a ausf H to ausf J, about two paragraphs. Check it out and see if the parts mentioned is on the sprues as optional parts for the ausf J conversion.
