CA + Talc As Filler And Anchor?

Hi all,

I am completing my Monogram 1/48 PBY-5A build and to keep her from tail sitting, I weighted the nose and substituted white metal landing gear for the kit plastic. Problem is, the nose gear pin is wobbly in the plastic receptacle sleeve. I am trying to come up with a solution and thought of using BSI IC-2000 rubberized CA glue mixed with talc to form a thick paste, put a glob if into the sleeve, then press the nose gear pin into it and let it cure. Will this also serve to anchor the gear? I also thought of pressing the gear into a blob of 5-minute epoxy and letting that cure. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Chris

You’re on the right track, but I would use the BSI Insta-cure gap filling CA and skip the mixing.

I do have a bottle of insta-cure+. That will secure the gear as well?

It should. It’s really strong stuff.

I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered something like this, but I tried mrb865’s method of gluing with ic-2000 rubberized ca glue and wow! It worked very well indeed. That nose gear isn’t going anywhere. I even used it to reinforce the terrible SAC metal landing gear. I will never buy that junk again. The metal is so soft, just the weight of the assembled kit and the 7 oz. of ballast I added are causing the gear to settle and deform. Honestly, I may have to redo the gear using the kit plastic. But the glue is great.
