C130 Spectre Gunship

Hi

Some pics of the 1/48 Italeri C130 Spectre Gunship. I spent about four months on the kit, most of that time spent rescribing the panel lines. Not an easy task I must say, but it really does enhance the final look of the model. 33 inch wingspan as well!!

Hope you like.

Lloyd-

That is a stunning build! Love the airbrush work, and the surface looks very smooth. Nice job too on masking the windows- looks perfect. The base and figures really add to the build, and add a good sense of scale to the display. You mention 1/48 scale and a wingspan of 13 inches, is that right?

Thanks for sharing the pics, quite a project you have there. [^]

Looks good, however I didn’t know Revell made 1/48 scale AC-130. I know Italeri made a AC-130A and a AC-130U. Which model is it?

Cool the airbrushing and panel lines look great. How was masking the cockpit windows, it looks like it was pretty hard?

My bad, I meant Italeri. I used Tamiya masking tape on the windows and just make sure to rub it down, no problems. The figures were a bit of an afterthought, but I thought I’d add some human interest for a comp I entered it into. Thanks for the comments!

very nice job! i too really like the diplay base and the figures on it, i think it really adds to the build bringing them into it. very nice paint work on the plane too!

I don’t know what it is about the AC-130’s, but I simply LOVE these things. Every time I see the movie “Transformers” where the AC-130 goes into its turn and the “whomp-whomp-whomp-BOOM-whomp-whomp-whomp-BOOM” starts I go into visual and audio ecstacy! [:D]

You did this mean machine of the American arsenal great justice! Everything from the craft to the display base and crew is excellent!

Looking good, never knew they had any in camo, always thought they were painted all grey, but looks good in camo.

It’s an AC-130U which is the model currently in use, it has a 5 barrel 25 mm, one 40 mm Bofors and one 150 mm.

I had the chance to see the inside of one a few years ago and managed to take quite a few pictures, it’s damn impresive up close.

Wow - great work on a very ambitious project. Way to go on those panel lines: they look super-crisp. Great build - wish I could see it in person

one of my favorite sayings comes from the AC130 “stop running you’ll just die tired” beautiful acft ,your shot up the ramp had me do a doubletake very nice job.

You did a fantastic job on the AC-130! [tup] The panel lines look very well done.

The AC-130 is one of my favorite aircraft of all time and this one does not dissappoint. I have the same kit in the stash but the sheer size of it has kept me from building it.

I totally agree. That is one of my favorite movies scenes. It was great that the Air Force cooperated with the movie and allowed the AC-130 in it.

Beautifull work Lloyd. Everything looked great in my eye. The paint, weathering, figures, the base everything. Top marks, shes a stunner.

Great looking “U Boat”!

A 1/48th AC-130 would have a wing span of about 33 inches! A 1/72 would be about 22 inches. I believe my math would be right for a wing span of 132 ft + for a real one!

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention, the only scratchbuilt detail I added to the gunship were the windshield wipers. She seemed naked without em![C):-)]

Hi Lloyd:

It’s a pleasure to add my congratulations to a cracking build. The entire presentation is a gem and a full on pleasure to gander at.

Happy days.

Unless it’s a typo the AC-130 that had the large canon were all 105mm not 150mm.

Great work on the AC-130. The simple diorama really brings it to “life”.

Nice work. Those panel lines can be a beeatch, uh.

Now you gonna comment on that 13 inches in 48th scale or not? Seems a bit small to me.

Very, very cool. Nice build [tup][tup]

“Now you gonna comment on that 13 inches in 48th scale or not? Seems a bit small to me.”

Yeah, fixed in the original post. The model measures about 33 inches wingspan, about 2 ft long and 9 inches tall at the tail. The model is so huge I have it stored on top of a display case wrapped in cling film, only place I can keep it dust free. Cheers anyway.
