I have finished the Williams Brothers 1/72 scale C-46 and it is ready for presentation to my friend. He has a photo of himself standing by the tailwheel between the US and the AFATC emblem, so I replicated this as seen in photo #2. More photos can be seen at: www.bellevillercflyers.com/gallery/album97 . Click on a thumbnail for a larger photo and then click on the double arrow to go directly to the next big picture. The red and blue marks in upper left of the emblem are morse code for A F A T C or Air Force Air Transportaion Command.
Beautiful, Darwin. Did you use the plastic tires or the rubber ones? I liked scuffing up the rubber tires on the Williams Bros. kits. They look quite realistic. Makes me want to find all those kits that much more before they are gone forever, especially your C-48, the P-35, the Sparrowhawk and, most imporantly, the Pitcairn Autogyro.
What did you do for metal finish or, for that matter, the AFATC badge? I remember the kit markings coming in pretty basic WW II transport livery with no other markings, and then a civilian Flying Tigers Line livery. The figure is absolutely outstanding. It is a talent I never mastered and, at this point, I guess never will. Thanks for showing a great piece of work.

I built one of the C-46’s for a friend who flew them over the Hump in WW 2. Mine was painted in olive drab top, and grey undersides. I put it on a wooden diorama base with a Dodge command car parked next to it to give it scale. It’s a good kit. Some fit problems, but not many. If you use rubber tires, save the plastic ones for later, since the rubber tires will eventually dry rot and fall apart. That’s the downside of rubber tires.
Darwin,
A beautiful build , My father had that same patch on his flight Jacket along with the Blood Chit on the back, Do you happen to know what group your friend was with? Regards Bob
