I started painting a vinyl C-3P0 but the gold is not what I want.
I sprayed on a coat of tamyia gold, but C-3P0 is supposed to be a very shiny yellowish gold.
Any suggetions on how to achive this colour?
I was thinking about goldleafing but I imiagine it would be next to impossible to polish the gold to bring on a good shine without the gold coming off. I could be wrong as I have never done this.

It’s hard to get a truely smooth finish with gold leaf but it’s possible. Best thing would be Alclad Gold. Very shiney.
It all depends on what look you are going for. I build full size costumes with the 501st and have worked a little on the C-3POs. We have one in a buds garage we are throwing together. We get lot’s of our costume parts Vac metalized. I also use Rub and Buff, this works very well to make plastic shine and look just like metal.
It’s a 12" old vinyl model one of the Screamin sets I picked up at my LHS from someones collection.
I would like to get a high shine like he is in the movies, very shiny gold metalic looking not familiar with Rub and Buff where do i find that?
just did a google search, I will check my local art supply store tomorrow.

Rub and Buff works great on plastic, but the trick is to heat it up with lots of rubbing. Take a old shirt and wrap it around your hand and start rubbing with your finger. it will bleed into your skin a little and give you a gold finger[(-D] It will be worth it. I use the stuff all the time.

You appear to be a TIE Pilot.
I did this with Testors gold, brushed on by hand. It needs to be buffed out, but I was really surprised with the outcome. Don’t know if that helps.
Well Tambo thanks again for the suggestion it worked great getting his leg silver, however I first sprayed Tamiya gold which came out way to dark, and when I was at the art supply shop they had run out of the Rub and Buff yellow gold so I got a can of Krylon yellow gold spray and that worked great. finished off with a coat of Future and an acrylic black wash.
for a 25 year old vinyl kit this worked out really well, the eyes I had to paint a with awashed out white over the gold which also came out well, I took a stab at the wiring in his torso as surprising as it was there are not as many good ref photo’s which I found to be much use.
No I think I will get an R2-D2 and a Vader.
There is a guy in China or Japan that must have bought the old Screamin kits and is selling them re-boxed and much cheaper than the vintage ones.

You might try either SnJ (enamel) or Talon (acrylic) in the gold. Either can be polished up with the gold polishing powder. The acrylic will offer a much more of a gold plated look after polishing with the powders. Email me for more info if you’re interested.
Are they vinyl or resin? I’d be surprised if they’re originals - probably recasts.

They are most likely recasts, however they are vinyl, there are some other figures which are resin but not the scremin ones.

I was hoping to order a couple more vinyl kits to keep 3P0 company but instead I got a bunch of finemolds Star Wars for Christmas, so no R2 for now, lol
