After having a rummage around in my parents attic I found the largely complete remains of an early attempt to build the Italeri 1/48 C-130. I’m considering trying to rebuild this but need some help with it.
Firstly, whats the best way to strip off the old paint?
Secondly, after looking, I’m thinking of making it up as the Blue Angels C-130T, but I can’t find out what the differences are. Can anybody help?
One way to take off old paint is to spray the body with Heavy Duty Easy Off and place it inside a large zip lock bag over night. You may have to apply it several times since the paint has been on the C-130 for a while You can find it at your local grocery store. I have used this on 2 car bodies kits and it came off like butter. Hope this helps.
I use DOT-3 brake fluid for a paint stripper. It won’t hurt the plastic and is very effective. You may have to use a toothbrush and scrub it some, but most paint will come right off after some soaking. You can immerse the whole thing in a tub of fluid if you have a big enough container and want to use a lot of brake fluid. Or you can just brush it on, (while holding the model over something to catch the drips) and let it set for awhile. I don’t know the differences in the Blue Angels 130 and the standard USAF versions. I don’t think that there is very much on the outside.
