Hi all-
One of the models that I am working on requires the color “Burnt Aluminum”. Any ideas on where to get that, or if not, what would be a good substitute? Using the color for the exhaust of an Avro Arrow.
thanks

try painting it aluminum, then weathering it with a mix of brown black and aluminum, i dont know. ask mikev
I know Model Master makes lots of metalizer colors, I’d bet that burnt aluminum is one of them. I know they make one called burnt metal or something similar, I’ve got it in with the rest of my paints. Check your lhs if they carry lots of paints, otherwise look online for it maybe. If instructions call for it, it’s likely you could buy it premixed. Leet’s idea for mixing and making that color sounds pretty good to me as well, it might be worth a shot.
Here is a link to an engine being fit into an Arrow. The picture is black and white, but the exhaust just looks like alloy that is “Smokey”.

I’d probably spray it flat black and then dry brush the aluminum highlights. Finish up with some flat finish.
Also, as maddafinga said, the metalizers would be a good choice, but that picture doesn’t show the exhaust as a single colid color so it might take a little work to get it to look “Real”.
What I do is spray on MM aluminum (I have burnt alluminum, but I prefer this) and go back with some flat black and either put an overall black shade over it or “burn” it in the proper areas. I like having control over weathering…
For exhausts, I use Model Master Metalizer “Burnt Iron.” Its a metallic rusty black color. I drybrush aluminum to the painted exhaust. You can see it in this pic.
Hope this helps.
Thanks all for the info. I am not at the skill level yet to start mixing and weathering. I’ll check my local hs and/or squadron.com and see what I can find.
Hey, have you guys ever seen a real jet exaust, it’s kinda burned black at the end, not completly, and it get lighter as it gets forward, untill the middle.
