Bullet identification help...

Hi guys, one of my gift were a bullet from my grandpa, I asked him was it was from and he said it was from a aircraft, but I wanted a little more info than that, so, wheres it from? btw, it is about an inch shorter than my 20mm, and half as wide - makes it a 10mm lol… Merry Christmas guys!

Iam gona guess and say its a 50cal.

Ya, that’s what I was going with, anyone with a forsure answer?

It’s a .50 cal.

Concur, .50 cal ball ammo.

I also go for 0.50 Cal. BTW, the calibre should be stamped underneat along with the maker and year of manufacture

Ya that’s the first place I looked, nothing there except for some #'s.

Thanks guys.

Anthony,

Take a look at the bottom of the casing. You should see numbers and letters. If it is a true military issued ammo, it should have 2 numbers and 2 letters. Like 89 LC (1989 Manufactured by Lake city). It looks like a .50 Cal. Especially if it came from the aircraft.

The steel casing is a dead giveaway that it is a .50 cal “Drill” round used as a training tool for armorers My dad says that they would practice “Belting” with them and were sometimes used as the first 3 or 4 rounds in a belt to aid in loading so you would not be dumping live rounds on the deck while charging/cocking the gun after leading the belt into the breech.I have several myself of .50cal, 20 & 30mm as well

30mm eh, you want to send me some:D, I have begun a collection, so far I got a 50cal, 2x 25mm and I want a 30mm and 35mm, theres a 35 on ebay, but it would be impossiable for me to get it through the boarder…

[] Completly forgot about that one. The ones I’m using for inspection right now are black and made entirely from aluminum. Creates a mess when you jam it!

Ok its a .50 cal , what’s on the base ?

… Right! Even dummys .303 have those regular stamps! What are yours? Being Canadian, I would not be surprised if you see IVI

I’ll get the base for you all in a bit, it’s all the way downstairs and I just woke up lol.

I wanta say that is a 30 od 6

Sorry, but you would be wrong. It is too long and has the wrong shaped casing (angled in as opposed to straight sides) for a 30/06.

Which looks like this:

Here is another .50 cal round to compare it to (with a 7.62mm and a 5.56mm round to its left):

[zzz]… all the way down stairs …[:-^]

lol, ok, I got it, it’s got a “A”, then either a “l” or it could just be a line, and a “4”

Can you take a pic?

here ya go…
