Hello guys, I’m new on this forum. Looks like a great place.
So yesterday I bought this:
And started building. Built for 3 hours last night, or didn’t actually build, but got a lot of stuff painted.
I’m going to take pictures along the build.
So I could introduce myself a little too, my name is Andreas, I’m from Finland, and have been building models on and off for about 18 years. Haven’t built hundreds of models, more likely in the rage of 50 or so…
My last two was radio-controlled.

So will continue the build today. I’m known for being a fast builder, I guess partly for having a lot of time to build during the winters.
Welcome to the Forum [tup] You are making some Exellent Progress. I started the same kit over a year ago and never progressed past the engines. I was unhappy with the pre printed body tubes. But I did buy aftermarket decals and still have neglected the kit.
Watching your build makes me want to start working on it again… I also built a Estes flying Saturn V about 5 years ago. It is a really super multi media kit that builds up really nice… I was afraid to fly it though from all the hrs I had invested in it…[(-D]

Well I too have some disappointment in this kit… The parts are poorly moulded (at least to current Revell quality) and the fold-up tubes, hmm… Could have been rings of plastic. But I guess this model is a remake of a 40 year old model? So they use the original molds I guess?
I’m not going to spend hours and hours on making everything seamless, not with this kit. I guess I wouldn’t finish it this year then.
I’ll continue building a little bit today, but don’t expect I will get 7 hours of building time. like yesterday.
Hi, been thinking of building a Saturn v for a while now, so I was doing a little research on-line into the topic. Came arcoss your build, and wow how impressive does that look. I have not built a model insome 15-20 years or so, so not sure weather to have a go or not ( one thing for sure it would not look as good as yours).

Here’s some further progress, I have put in about 20 hours so-far. (Sorry for the poor quality, taken with my phone, next time I’ll bring my camera to the garage.)
Masking and painting
These turned out pretty well.
“Wings” applied, lined up well with the black/white hull.
This is how far I have gotten now, still a good way to go.
Before you get too far along, and depending on what your aims are with this build, you should know that the paint schemes and colors that Revell suggests are for pre-lunar launch vehicles and/or prototypes. the black bands got changed quite a bit. Check out some of these references:
bayerische - Your making good progress and its looking good. I am with you on the poor quality of the plastic castings, but then I have built limited run kits that make this one look like a dream.
I plan on getting back to building the Revell kit after I locate some styrene or suitiable pvc tubing for the body tubes.
Great build on this so far, I have the Revell 1/144 version that I picked up this summer and is near the top of the stash. I will probably start on it when I finish my 18 inch Enterprise.
Great looking Saturn V Bayerische, I also started the kit a few months ago. I would like to get the after market kits but the price is out of my range.
Hi Andreas. Nice seeing your Saturn V build. It’s inspired me to start in on mine. I picked one up a few years back for nostalgia sake but haven’t started it; now’s the time. I built one before but that was back in 1968: I got it and the 48th scale Apollo C/SM and LM kit for Christmas that year. Given the Apollo 8 mission and broadcast Christmas Eve, you can imagine how happy this 9 year old was with Santa the next morning. I think I had them both built and flying my own moon missions before new years.
I have been looking at all the after market stuff for it but I’m just going to have fun with the build, do it mostly stock except for stuff I have laying around the shop and in the “spare parts” bin. Maybe I’ll post pictures of my progress as well. Anyway, it’s been fun watching you put yours together. Thanks for the inspiration.
Well I’ve been having a break from building, partly because of a holiday trip, which included Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, and due to it being too cold to build in my garage, the heating is not enough. [:D]
Hopefully I’ll be able to continue my build after a few weeks.
Andreas- I am considering one of these 1/96 Apollo/Saturn V Revell kits, and was wondering about the problem of how badly some of the parts are fitting together. Can you describe where the problems are, and how difficult it is to resolve the issues? I have some modeling skills, I recently built the 1/48 B-1A Lancer Bomber by Revell, and the Airfix 1/72 Concorde, and was happy with how both turned out, but don’t want to get in over my head with this one!
How were the pre-marked styrene sheets for the fuel tanks? You said some of the adapter rings had to be rolled and cemented before use, how did that go?
