Hi there i am a newbie in diorama and thinking of starting one and i am interested in trying to use plaster brick as cobblestone and then painting them to look realistic. Do you think this is a good idea? Because i rarely see anyone using this method, only some kind of styrofoam.
Tim Kidwell from FSM, did an excellent video of making cobblestones from cork sheets. A few years FSM also did an article on making a cobblestone base from air drying clay and using the ferrule of an old paintbrush without the bristles to press into the clay to form the cobblestones.
Thank you so much for the great video can’t wait to try. But currently im trying to use literally mini bricks to create cobblestone. I will do it by sticking the brick one by one to create the cobblestone and i don’t know if it will work or not
Just a bit of reference this is what im talking about.
The material is literally a brick but small version of 1:35
What i am trying to do is sticking them one by one in a pattern to create the cobblestone and if anyone has an input for me would be greatly appreaciated
You lay the plaster or putty down on your board or foam you are using as a base and then you roll the stencil over it and it will leave the pattern on it . Making the wall , roads or paths using foam only also look good but can be a bit more time consuming .
Well, I expect that would work, I’ve made a partial brick wall with 3D printed bricks before and it went well. I’d say give it a go, but it’ll probably take some time.
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, when you hear cobblestones you would think of stones but I looked it up and apparently in some cases they can look like bricks. Perhaps you can do some research.
Also, check out the YouTube channel CW Modelling, Part 1 of his video Berlin 1945. He uses a similar method.
