building a gear box for counter-rotating props in 1/72 scale

Hi folks,

In my never ending quest to complicate my model projects (ha…ha…) I wanted to build a counter rotating gearbox for several aircraft with counter rotating props. I work in 1/72 scale so there isn’t a lot of room. I have the schematic, understand how it works, but does anyone know where to purchase small gears or maybe even a ready-made gearbox ?

THX

Hey Guy !

You might be able to find them in very small sizes at anywhere that sells Quad and Octo copters and Helos. T.B.

thx…

Try Northwest shortline. They make all kinds of very tiny gears for model railroad locomotives.

You could also check out Walthers. Also a model railroad supply site.

Or… find some cheep (broken ) watches at a flea market or garage sale, and pull some gears out of them.

There is a company called Small Parts that features hardware- mostly small fasteners, but they may have some gears. There is the company that is an offshoot of Edmund Scientific that has some gear sets- forget the new name. And an electronics supplier, Jameco, has a few gear sets.

Hey Putsie !

Just have to chime in here again ! Have you heard of Futaba ? That’s an R.C. Control company .They have servo Parts Packs to use with their servos . Maybe you could use something that . Now , Don’t laugh !! LEGO has a bunch of smaller Bevel and Straight gears that might work .

Those come mostly from their Technic sets . Any small motorized toy could have the gears you need . I don’t recommend watches , because of the thinness of the gears within.
