Just Finished this puppy. I am going to make a base and mount the finished kit on it, for wall mounting, as the room in the glass case is dangerously scarse.
You may notice a trick taken from our armour modelling cousins, ie.“paint chipping” . I thought that a vehicle which goes in and out of athmospheres should have an odd bit of chipped paint as well as burn streaks, but subtley.
Thank you all for watching my posts,
see you all when I finish my “PLANET OF THE APES , ICARUS”
For being a rather cheesy series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century had some pretty cool ships. Kinda like the old Space 1999, couldn’t get much more hokey for show in general, but the ships and such were decent things.
Thanks for the kind comments, sis somebody mention SPACE: 1999, OOP’s i think I’ve gone overboard with that one, I really love the eagle transporter, so much so that I have three 22inch models still in kit form made from white metal and resin. Don’t ask the cost. I also have a 23inch Die-Cast model which is due any day, cost about €700, almost $900US.
I started this starfighter to get a break from my big T34 tank, as the size is just right for my glass case. My collection of big fat kits is based in the attic, which is where they will remain until I can buy a bigger house.
I have all the bandai Star Trek kits built and displayed, but would need a hangar to build the Polar Lights NX-01 or the NCC-1701.
Regards, and Happy and prosperous New Year to all,
Yah, the Space 1999 stuff was really cool to me. I thought that Moonbase Alpha was just “all that!” (No such term back then, but hey)
I was in 4th grade-5th grade at the time, and had two friends into sci-fi stuff at the time as well. We would spend hours drawing the ships, and my two buddies really got into the details beyong my abilities at the time (I was never much of a technical drawing sort, more freeform). We also took big sheets of posterboard and taped them down on our school desks, and drew space ship control consoles for between period star battles - yes, what a buncha dorks! Had little cut-outs of various sci-fi ships from Star Trek to Space 1999 and anything else on TV during that time.
I see a fair number of 1999 original kits floating about on eBay, and sometimes think of nailing down the moonbase as it seems to be predominant of the theme stuff there.
I seem to have similar memories, around 5th/6th grade. A friend of mine had all the Dinky’s, which were cool for their time. One issue of Starlog had Eagle blueprints in them so I copied them for drafting class! What a dork indeed! [:D]
