I know any kind of metalic colors really shouldn’t be hand brushed, but i did anyway. I brushed on chrome silver on my F-86D and the brush strokes are not that bad but they are noticeable, is there anyway to make them disappear?
I’ve never tried this so try it on an inconspicuous area first. Once the paint has thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly dried try buffing it with a coffee filter. They are sort of like paper cheesecloth and actually do a pretty good job of extremely light sanding. I don’t know if it will get the brush marks out though. Hopefully someone will have a better idea.
The only way I know to make the brush strokes disappear is to either strip the paint off or spray another coat with an airbrush. If you insist on brush painting, you need to thin the paint a bit first. Also, your brush strokes need to be somewhat fast.[:)]

Also, when you paint it, just use one quick stroke, not many little ones.

Hey Gunney the coffee filter idea is a good one. Another is to take your silver and thin it ALOT til is a wash and go over your model suface with it. Stroke speed isnt that big of a deal, going the same direction, and over lapping each stroke is your “money maker” when brush painting. Keep practicing that and you will have beautiful finishes in a short while. A wash is your best chance at getting an even finish if you have brush strokes in your job. Good luck.

gunney, there is this stuff at your local hardware store, in the “pipe fitters” section called SNJ Metal, it comes in both spray and powder form, the powder rubs on with a cloth… or you can use a Q-Tip for small area, anyway… if you make a mistake the stuff comes right off with water, haven’t used it in a long long time but i know it works VERY well, and it looks better than any silver paint I ever used.
In fact I learned about it from FSM many years agothey showed a guy working on an F86 [:D], what he did was sprayed on a coat of gloss clear coat. and just before it dried and the paint was still tacky… rubbed in the SNJ Metal powder… came out like a mirror finish nearly… then seal it with another clear coat…it won’t run as long as you seal it VERY lightly…

Ooo I forgot to say be very careful if using the SNJ because it is a powder, it’s color and shinyness will not match your painted on silver. Even if you use a light coat is might be off. No reason not to give it a try tho… something else good might come from it.

I just brushed aluminum paint onto the engine of my revell enzo ferrar, and i looked at it a few seconds later, and the metallic paint seemed to level out. Maybe its different for scylics, but i was using MM enamel so that might be why. Not sure though.
