Hello friends, I am brush painter with my models. I am looking for an opinion. How many coats of primer is usually standard?
Other than along seams, one coat should be enough. The primer has two functions- helping paint adhesion, and giving you a uniform background color to aid painting. However, if I have a seam to smooth out, it may take several repetitions of filler, sanding, and priming.
As with all brushwork, it is important to keep the coats thin. There is no good solution to brush marks. Since opacity is not as big an issue as it is for finish coats, fewer coats will do. But get good smooth overall coverage.
