So, in my quest to move away from enamel paints, I’ve just experimented with model master acrylics. I bought gloss black and this hand brushes beautifully!! No brush strokes, one coat. I compared this to black for model master enamels and the enamel is much worse. I even tried 2 different bottles.
Is this typical for model master acrylics? should I expect the same good results for other colours? If the other colours look this good, then Im going to make the switch.
whats everyone’s opinion on model master acrylics?
No, do not expect these results from all Model Master Acrylic colors. In most cases I find that their one coat coverage is often translucent. And while you don’t get texture of brush marks, you certainly see brush marks regarding color opacity. ESPECIALLY with lighter colors. Priming helps, but does not eliminate the problem. Their airbrushing properties are better than their hand brushing properties in my experience. Although they do handbrush with fewer headaches than Tamiya.
I agree with stikpusher - I don’t generally find hand brushing mm acrylics as easy as enamel, and you usually need multiple coats as they seem more translucent. I have switched over to acrylics for spraying, as you get much less fumes than with enamels/lacquers, and have been very happy with the results. However I still use enamels frequently for hand brushing, such as on model details…
