Bronco 1/35 Piper Cub L4H O-59?

I’ve found two versions of this kit: #3514 and 3518 (“Rosie the Rocketeer”)…

  1. Anybody have any info on this kit–firsthand build experience or links to kit reviews–good, bad, ugly?

EDIT: I did find this review: http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=2463.

  1. Is it worth the approximately $60 (US) on Squadron.com?

Pics would be appreciated! Thanks in advance for any input!!

I got the first issue of this kit as i’m a huge fan of liason aircraft and a huge Cub sounded cool. I lucked out and got it on the 50% off pile at my LHS. Is it worth $60? It’s hard to say. You could certainly go crazy adding extra detail if you’d like. It has photoetch belt buckles. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the thin strip between the wings. I knew it was gonna break at some point and I wasn’t let down there. It looks pretty cool once it’s together though!

The “Is it worth $60?” question is one only you can answer. I built this but finished it as a civilian aircraft. It can be seen HERE with the color scheme expalnation.

Here is a shot of the interior that is not on my site…

Overall fit is not too bad and surface deatil is decent. There are some weird depressions in the underside of the wing that need to be filled. The frame in the cockpit does not support the wing at all. That wing is glued the clear part which are pretty stury and very clear. i had to fiddle with the fit here a bit. The back edge of the canopy sits a little proud of the spine of the fuselage. Some careful sanding of the bottom of the canopy at an angle to the front will lower the back but I was afriad to go to far but I thinkI could have gone a bit more. The frame thickness makes masking with Tamiya tape a breeze

STC is dead on about the wing… mine broke too.

There is an update set available from Azimut but its $30. I added pipes and wires to the engine, brake line and control syrfcae cables and was extremely pleased wit the outcome. Hated to give it away. It’s $43 at Great Modles Webstore. I could see builing this one again.

Good ref pics HERE

Wing_nut and spooky! Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. Nice job on your builds of this kit, btw! [tup][tup]

As far as the “Is it worth it?” question…I should have explained further…what I really meant was “Since I don’t know much or haven’t heard much about the Bronco model company, is it a bunch of crappy plastic parts the the manufacturer SAYS should make a 1/35 scale L4 [%-)], or is it a basically well-made kit that generally represents a 1/35 Cub?” I think from what I saw and read from both your posts and build pics, it’ll do for what I want! Thanks again for the input! [:)]

I’ve got the “Rosie” kit on the shelf but I’m going to do it in the L-4 markings of a plane I got my first lessons in. Looking forward to this build. Everywhere I looked online it was going to be 50 and up after shipping but my LHS ordered it and only charged me 35.

kg4kpg, WOW!! That’s a great price! I’ll have to inquire at my LHS…see what they charge!

Thing was, I only asked them to check price and availability but they had it brought in anyway. I was expecting it to be about 50 bucks. I paid quickly just in case they made an error.[;)]

The “Rosie the Rocketeer” version is available at Great Models right now for $21…I’m gonna get that if it’s that price!
