Hello Everyone,
I’m currently building an MRC AH-1W SuperCobra. I had an accident and one of the main skids broke off where i’d glued it. I was thinking of making a crash site diorama, but i’d rather not if I have a choice. Does anybody have any ideas on how I could fix it?
Thanks,
Spencer
Take a small drill and some small-gauge wire, drill holes into the fuselage mounting points, and the ends of the skid cross-tubes. Cut small lengths of wire, insert them into the holes, then super-glue the lot together. The wire should add enough strength to the join to support the birds weight.
Finally, stop flying your models around the room going “Budda - budda - budda - budda - budda” Like the rest of us do - that’s how things get broken. [:D]
That would be my choice also. Sound advice! “Plop - plop - plop - plop”.
Thank you very much, I would’ve never thought of that. I’m pretty new to this and I was thinking of bracing it underneath somehow, with a sprue or something. I really think I would have screwed it up, hence the dio. Thanks again.[tup]
Hey I live in Austin too. Well, Cedar Park.
No kidding? You ever get by King’s Hobby??
Are you going to the San Antonio show week after next?
Yeah, it’s my favorite shop in Austin. It’s been a while though, I just moved back here from Philly. I can’t make it to S.A., is there possibly an Austin show?My email is riffraff247@yahoo.com
It worked out great! I didn’t have a small enough drill bit, so I ended up using my trusty zippo. I heated a very small brad until red hot, then carefully pushed it a short way into one of the skid cross tubes. I did the same with the other one and let them cool.I removed the brads and reapeated the process with the fuselage. I was going to trim the brads down to about 1/8 ", but I decided to leave them long in case the skid needed adjusting. I then super-glued it all together as suggested. Fortunately it didn’t need adjusting, it worked out just fine. I woukdn’t have been able to do it without you guys! Thanks very much for your input. [:D]
The MRC AH-1w is a good kit, just make sure that u check the fit, i had to tweak mine a little bit, found out that heating just a little bit like with a blow dryer worked really well to make sure that it fit and after heating it, bend it so that it will fit well, then super glued it into place while it was pretty warm, worked great
Yeah, It’s my first MRC and I like it, especially 1/35. Mine fit together fairly well. I had to putty a little but that’s o.k. Now I have to use a some on the skid(s). I had to use pins on the other side also. Anybody have any putty tricks up there sleeve?
Check out Swanney’s website for putty tips: http://swannysmodels.com/
He’s a guy that posts a lot on the aircraft forum. There’s an article about an easier way to use putty.
Scott
Thanks Scott, Swanney has an excellent site. I’ll definitely use some of those tips in the future. I wish I’d known about them before I glued my fuselage.- Spencer
