British Comet (A34) Medium Tank (Bronco 1/35th)

Just finished this for Bish’s British Army Group Build.

As usual click on the photo for a bigger picture.

Not going into detail on the history of the tank, if you want more information click on the link below:

Not the best kit, but not the worst I’ve ever assembled. If you do buy it get a newer copy- mine came with ‘rubber band’ tracks that were about an inch - 2.5cm too short. I ended up tying them together with dental floss, painting it black, and the rotating the mess up under the rear fenders. So you can’t see unless you turn the tank over and look under her skirts. The newer kits come with link track that hopefully is the right length.

The krappy tracks. Please spare yourself and buy the newer version of the kit.

That is one dang good looking Comet. It’s a shame about those kit tracks, but I can’t tell from the final reveal that there was any problems at all.

Your figure painting skills are improving. I absolutely love the pattern on the kilt!

Overall this is a beautiful scene. I love it.

Terrific job, Gamera - very well done! Did you use the gun barrel from the kit, or a turned alu one? It looks good, whichever it is. I have one of these in the stash, with the individual length tracks - only time will tell if they’re long enough. I’ve never done those tracks before & I’m not looking forward to the job. Unlike most, I actually prefer the vinyl type, and was glad to see my AFV Club Centurion Mk 3 came with those.

If my Comet tracks aren’t long enough, my future holds some interesting scratch-building!

I agree with M. Brindos. Nice job on the Comet. Sorry you had to cobble the tracks together like that, but it seems to work just fine.

Very sweet, good figure work too. Wouldn’t have known about the tracks if you hadn’t said anything

Thanks guys!

Mike: I think my figure painting is kinda in a rut. But still they look okay to me from about a yard/metre which is fine with me.

Hutch: The gun is turned aluminum. I think it came with the early models of the kit, not sure if it’s still in the newer ones. And I think they did fix the problem with the short tracks with the newer link type. At least I hope so, I’d hate to see you go though the same issues.

I recently purchased one of Bronco’s new(er) Comet kits with the indy tracks. NO aluminum barrel in this kit. It seems to be a decent kit, with several options for early or late versions. Haven’t started building yet, but may do so as winter approaches. Liked your build–NICE!

Thanks Rick! Sad to hear you didn’t get the aluminum barrel, it’s a lot easier than gluing the two parts together and sanding. But the indy tracks are a BIG improvement- glad to hear you’re not going to have to struggle with the too short ones like I did (because I’m a big dummy and didn’t buy aftermarket ones).

The Comet looks excellent. I’ve had a soft spot for the Comet since building the Matchbox kit as a lad. Since taking up model making again to pass the time in lock down, I’ve been building British tanks, and the growing collection won’t be complete without a Comet. So great to see one completed so nicely.
