I have just recently added Tamiya’s Mk5 Chieftain to my pile, & was wondering at what point the Royal Tank Corps stopped using Bronze Green as their main colour, & changed over to the modern British Army Green. Also there is a reference in the decalling instructions for a 2-tone green vehicle. I have had a look at the 2 colours side by side, & can’t imagine anyone using such a bright shade of green as a supplementary camouflage colour. Is it correct?
That would have been in the mid-late 1970s. I was in the Royal Signals at the time, and remember re-painting out radio wagons in green/ black camo from Deep Bronze Green in 1978 -79. Front line units would have done so a year or two earlier. The closest colour in the Tamiya range to British Army camo green is probably AS23, which is meant to be a match for RLM82. Tamiya XF.69 is pretty close to the black.
Cheers,
Chris.
Thanks Chris. Any colour match for the Deep Bronze Green?
Hi, Shaun,
Humbrol 75 is pretty much spot on. Tamiya XF.11 and Gunze H36 are close.
Cheers,
Chris.
The Airfix Website has a mixing-chart for humbrol paints to get the British Armour Bronze Green.
NTM
And the formula they give is
43 parts Humbrol 03 to 15 parts Humbrol 80 to 14 parts Humbrol 60. [%-)]
Like I said, Humbrol 75 and Tamiya Acrylic XF.11 are pretty close.
Cheers,
Chris.
I think 3:1:1 is a much simpler way of saying the above ratios. Give or take a drop.
