Bought some new brushes today and I love em!!!!

I just bought a few new brushes today[:)]…I was going to go with some fairly high dollar ones[?]…but upon the suggestion of the “Figure Authority”[^] at the LHS I instead got some ROYAL Soft-Grip brushes roughly about $4-$6 cheaper per brush[:D]…I was told they just dont tear up as easily and are more comfortable[:)]…I must say they really are. [^]So far Im happy with em.

Never heard of the Royal brushes. I mught have to look out for them. I still use the Citadel and Armoury brushes, but their life span leaves a bit to be desired. Is there a distributer or site they can be ordered from?

While considered “cheap” by some I think they’re economical…Ive done a lot of painting today and tonight that I have been putting off until I got some better brushes.
I havent been able to find anyone online that carries just the brushes yet…I know that Michaels has them $2.99/ea Hobby Lobby $2.79/ea my LHS had them for $2.59/ea…So might want to check out either of those 2 stores if you have one near you. The brushes themselves have a clear handle with a cushion(which is clear, almost similair to whats on some writting pens). I’ll keep looking around online and see what I can come up with.

I have a Hobby Lobby near my house. I’ll try there sometime in the near future. It’s about time to replace some of my brushes, anyway. Thanks for the info!

I bought some of the royal brushes myself no tot long ago. Found mine at michaels for 50% off. I have liked them and were great until my youngest got his little hands on them and was jabbing them into the table. Not much help for them now I’m afraid.

I spend some time in Hobby Lobby (Too much time according to my girlfriend!), and I’ve never seen those brushes. What section would they be in?

red sable ones are supposed to be better. more expensive though. also remember to have different brushes for enamel and acrylic otherwise the bristles will “explode”.

At my local hobby lobby they were located on an end-cap…near the other brushes and artist supplies

I agree red-sable brushes are better…for most applications. IMHO modeling isnt one of them…Ive also been advised by the 2 main LHS’s in my area to stay away from them for modeling also. At $10-$32 a pop for sable brushes…Id rather replace cheaper brushes once a year and spend the other money on kits and parts.

As far as bristles “exploding” what do you mean? I have never heard of that(Please dont think Im doubting you…just curious).

Michaels is a great store for brushes and every sunday newspaper has 40% off coupons for Michaels so if you have a store in your area check the newspaper!

Well I bought the new brushes for 35th scale Tamiya figures…so far been working out great!

I think he’s talking about when the bristles flare out in every direction and turn you expensive brush into a nice mini duster.

i go to ebay, look uo 1/0, 00/1 etc. brushes sorted by low price to high price. Invaraiably I will begin with items from China, Hong Kong, Phillipines… They are like $0.75 for 3 brushes and free shipping! for that price, use them until damaged, throw it away and use another one.
