Botchkay's Mount Finished

hi fellas, i’ve been slippin’ to the bench whenever i get the chance lately and finally completed this bird for the NMF Group Build. she, as usual, is not without her handicaps, but she’s done. a couple of incidents that happened during construction: i took a progress pic after i got the basic paint job done with out decals and future, i left the 100 watt bulb on about a foot away from the the alclad finish and when i got back she had a bunch a “spider web” runs all in the surface!!! then, after the final coat of future after the decals and wash, i masked off the painted areas to apply a clear flat and when i took the tamiya masking tape off, some of the decals tore off as well!! i thin my future so maybe i didn’t get a good enough coat on to seal them. anyway, Capt. Botckay is supposed to show 15 kills, but at this stage in the war, he only has 12!![:D] i fixed the decals with “extras” and you can barely notice without a good sharp eye.[;)]

this is tamiya’s 1/48 P-51D OOB with the exception of a few Superscale decals and a True Details resin seat. the first one out of the oven since Ivan!! its good to be back. later.

Beautiful job, as usual, Chris. But isn’t it a little clean for one of yours? [:D]

looks like a beautiful bid ! i especially like the reflection of the “B6” on the wing - thats NMF all right !

Un, Salty, you think I could get a few Alclad lessons from you? I’m really intimidated by this Sabre build coming up using the stuff, and you obviously are not the least intimidated by it. Beautiful build, and what a finish. I too was taken by the reflection of the ID letters in the wing.
Tom

beautiful job chris sucker sure does shine!

Great job Chris. Really looks good, I see no sign of spider webs in the Future. Glad to see you back on the bench after Ivan clean up.

Regards, Rick

Beautiful build. You make NMF’s look easy.

thanks for the kind words guys!!

LOL, don’t worry scott, i got a dirty one in the oven to be released soon!![;)] gonna make the armor guys blush!! nah, i kinda like my D stangs to be clean, they’re fine lookin’ aircraft to me and i hate to dirty them up too bad.

sharkskin that would be the blind leading the blind my friend!! [:o)] just let me know, i’ll tell ya all i know about alclad…that shouldn’t take long!!LOL

rick if you can’t see it, i’m not gonna point it out to ya!![:D] they are very tiny hairline type cracks…thank God for lighting and camara angles!![;)]

As always, something to strive for![bow][bow][bow]

chris outstanding work.

joe

thanks Joe, Didfal!![:)]

Wonderful work

Damn close to perfection, if there is such a thing.

Awesome work mate. That’s one of the best NMF birds I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to see your back bro. Got me a BIG D lined up after my hog [:D]. Ill send it to you for the nmf[;)] -Jeff

Looks really nice, that Tamiya kit is a good one.

thanks for the compliments fellas.

Jeff there is nothing wrong with the NMF i’ve seen you do friend.

Swanny i agree, a really easy build.

A great Stang you got there. Thanks for sharing.

As usual, I am blown away by looking at your build. It looks great!

So you overcoat the NMF with future? I read somewhere that it changes the look of the finish, but it looks great on yours and sure would help protect the finish. I think I will add that to my next one.

A question (I’m sure very basic) about the alcad. Do you have to paint the non-metal colors first and then mask those and do the metal or can you safely mask over the metal? Oh and another, the bottles seem very expensive…how long does one last? one build, two, more?? Thanks, I would like to try the stuff, but have kind of been frightened away by the price.

Thanks, and again, AWESOME work!
Leon

thanks fellas.

Leon my first NMF build i left the alclad unsealed and it worked nice, but the next time i decided to seal my decals before i did the wash, and i liked the way it looked. so, then i added another coat of future after the wash cured and to me, i just gives the NMF an added dimension, so yes, it does change the look of the finish in a positive way. this is personal preference though. as far as the painted areas, i do the alclad finish first, then when cured, i mask off the metal finish and spray the painted areas, the alclad has never lifted with me. it is safe to mask over alclad. i did 3.5 1/48 kits with one bottle of alclad white aluminum, and several small parts as well.

Lookin’ beautiful. And what great build comes to us without overcoming small mishaps? Part of our skill as modelers is the ability to cope with and circumvent the little unexpected items along the way. Modeling is a microcosm of life itself. Looks like a great job, Salty.
