I understand that Adm. Jones had the ship painted black. Is that so?
A while back there was a post about John Paul Jones’ ship the" Bonhomme Richard". I can’t find it in the search bar here but there was a plan shown that I believe was by J. Boudroit. I would like to re-read the post.
A ship model of Bonhomme Richard is on display at the crypt of Capt. John Paul Jones, which is below the Naval Academy Chapel. (Alison Harbaugh | The Annapolis Capital)
Thanks for the quick really TomZ2. I appreciate it, I was given a Monogram kit of this ship as gift. I do believe that there are some glaring liberties taken by Monogram in their interpretation of the ship.
I thought that there was a thread here with a discussion of the kit and its shortcomings. As the kit was a gift I do expect to build it but needed a little more info on it.
Jean Boudriot book on the ship and it’s reconstruction was also mentioned in the thread. In trying to find a copy of the book I find it’s quite expensive now.
Thanks subfixer. Yes, that’s the thread I was thinking of. Well… I’ll still make the build, but I don’t think I’ll be spending a lot of extra time/effort on it. The person who gave me the kit as a birth day present knew of my love of sailing and old ships, so she thought this was right up my ally. I know she’ll be pleased to see it built. Thanks again sir.
According to Boudriot, she was painted black. Here is an image of the painting done by William Gilkerson which appears in Boudriot’s book and based on his plans.
