Bomb bay detail for monogram B-17?

Is there any aftermarket to replace the rather spartan bomb bay of the Monogram 1/48 B-17G? Eduard sells photo etch for 1/32 and 1/72 B-17s, as well as 1/48 B-24s. I know there were a few resin kits in the past, but they are all oop now. Are there any options for dressing up the bomb bay other than pure scratchbuilding?

There was a Verlinden set for that kit. It covered the whole aircraft, and not just the bomb bay.

Resin 2 Details and Paragon also made bomb baby specific sets.

But with the way companies come and go nowadays who knows about how easy their stuff is to find.

But scratch work should not be that hard for this area. Just lots of wire and strip styrene.

Hi;

Amen on the wires ! The Collngs Foundation Bird ( I saw it weekend before last ) Was a narrow space crowded with wires and flight cables . No Handholds , remember !

The wires were bundled tightly . They ran from here to there and everywhere ! The cables were run along one side with little tensioner wheels in pairs as well . These flight control cables were exposed and very easy to grab by accident . Anyway the bomb racks were wider at the top then they narrowed to a platform that ran from the forward end of the bomb bay to the aft , just inside the bay doors .

All this and air canisters small instruments and the midship gun bays . plus the Bullet boxes for steady feed . On the flight control vables . A pair ran down the port ( left ) side of the aircraft . The rudder control cables ran directly above your head suspended by those little tensioner rollers and small brackets from every sixth frame .

The gun bays did Not have glass . I know some ( Most of the birds , did ) I hope this helps . T.B.

I actually have the Verlinden set. It’s got lots of nice additional details, including open bomb bay doors, but no additional interior details.

The paragon set is long oop and not even available on eBay.

The only thing I can find anywhere on line about the resin2detail set is their blog post from 2016 announcing the product. No retail listings, no mention of it in build threads, no box reviews. I’ve emailed them to ask if it was ever actually produced.

It looks like scratch work is probably my only option.

Thanks for all the detailed response. I’ll try to incorporate some of these things. I saw the Collings Foundation 909 a couple years ago and took about 30 pics inside and out so I’ll definitely refer to those as well.
