ok, so with my Hobby Craft BMP i needed new roadwheels. i found an AM kit with workable links and new roadwheels. its made by Armour Track Models. does anyone know if this is a good kit suitable to somehow make the HobbyCraft a little better? thanks.
Dude, I think you are throwing good money after bad. Sort of like buying an old Yugo from the junk yard and then slapping $800 rims on it.
Armour Track Models makes really nice $30 tracks (I have several sets but for different tanks). For that much money, you could get a better Zvezda/DML or even old Esci BMP and be better off from the start.
Have to agree with Sabot here. About all the HobbyCraft BMP is good for is a burned out hulk. You could either put simple circle plates or putty over the screw heads on the road wheels, or cover them up with sutt and ash, or build it where the road wheels are stripped off or melted, or missing. Easiest would be to cover them with plastic or putty.
If you are looking for a descent BMP, I suggest the DML versions. Much better and much cheaper than buying AM stuff to fix the crappy HobbyCraft one.
Cut your losses and find the Esci or DML BMP kits. They are a better starting point and more worthy of aftermarket parts. A note of caution concerning the Armour Track BMP tracks. They are very tiny and are extremely prone to tweezer launch and can be fiddly to put together. I used a set on an Esci kit and while they look very good, assembly can be tedious. At least it was in my experience.
I second the tedious assembly of the Armortrack tracks. They keep falling apart , that was just trying to assemble them. I haven’t even put them on yet. I plan to try and put them on in sections and crazy glue the end pieces on once I got them set. “Workable” is kind of a misnomer. I got a nice set of pliers and pressure fitted the ends, but the more you work the looser they get. Researching books and pictures, they are more accurate than the DML individuals. The wheels that are included don’t fit either (DML BMP-2) and I haven’t yet tackled putting them on yet. Definitely do-able, but just requires some improvising with the shaft length so it matches the main gear/track lineup.
Fruil’s are great in comparison (done 6 sets), but don’t make BMP stuff.
All in all, they’ll look much better, but be ready for some extra work and some exercise in combinations of the George Carlin 7 words . . .
