Blow Molding

Well , here’s an interesting vesrsion of molding .

Did you know that some kits could,ve been Blow - Molded and been better . There’s one kit that always surprised me though .It was clearly a mistake , but no one caught it .

Enter poor old Lindberg . They had a large model of a " Sport Fisherman ". Now this wasn’t a bad model . Except the details for the injection molding had the detail , sharp detail , on the inside of the model and not the outside !

After seeing this I had to go to my plant and check my fiberglass boat molds and make sure someone didn,t build a mold that way !

Now being familiar with the technique I wonder if some boat hulls could be made using Blow process .After all , Bottles used in crafts are made that way Hmmmmm ! T.B.

Isn’t blow molding just a variant of vacuum molding? Depends on whether you have vacuum or compressed air available. One up side to blow molding is that you are not limited to 14 psi of vacuum- you can use whatever pressure you need to mold thicker plastic. Of course, you still need to heat the plastic, as you do in vacuum forming.

As a Chemist I try to put in a formula state of forming.Very interesting.
