is there such a thing? not happy with AFV clubs workable Tiger1 tracks so i’ll soon be ordering up a coupla sets of fruils and i doubt the LHSs here carry or can even get blackenit
Don’t worry about the blacken-it.Very expensive,Just paint and weather using regular processes, they come out just as good.
If you must I think micro-mark carries it in the US or their version of it.
I don’t know where you are located but you can get Blackenit at Micromark.

Check this stuff out, its called Black4Track, its supposed to be re-usable. I’ve never tried it, but just saw this review, so may give it a shot soon.

Jeff
Never used it before, but that looks pretty cool.
Thanks for the link Jeff.
now that looks interesting, and likely hard to get atleast for now. the thing with that stuff, those trax look like they came out too black for my liking but i suppose if left in for less time that might do. for now it may have to be paint. also i’m in canuckistan, Halifax
No problem guys. It does look very dark in some of those photos, but in others doesn’t look so bad. Might be worth experimenting on some extra old tracks first though before going whole hog on a new set of Fruils.
Jeff
Black4Tracks looks like this after treatment and it’s dry.
And it looks like this with a coat of Burnt Sienna and then a coat of Raw Umber oil wash.
Hope this helps to make up your mind. Tony Lee
well, it’s made up my mind. now to find this stuff[dinner]
You can find it here:
http://www.tankratsafvdepot.com/
This was the first time I ever used it and it turned out much better than Black-N-It.
If it shows out of stock e-mail old Tankrat and he’ll mix some up.
Tony Lee
doesn’t appear to be in stock, but might be mooet anyway. no CoD, apparently. thx anyway
Thanks for the link Tony!
Looks like it turns out well.
spoke too soon. Track48 is in the process of carrying Black4Tracks, so Meeta’ll let me know when they have it and i’ll pass it on here when they do
From what he told me when I ordered my bottle to try was that it was just he and his wife that mix it up and he sales it faster than he can keep up with the stocking list so he very seldom list it as in stock.
So if it were me I would place my order anyway, in fact i’m going to get a couple more bottles myself.
Tony Lee
i’ll wait till track48 gets it. no duty that way[:D]
Thanks for the photos Tony, that looks awesome! I’m sold.
Jeff
I’ve gotta throw my two cents behind TankRat and the black4track. It works much better than blackenit, expecially on the new friuli tracks. They changed the composition of the metal and not it seems, at least for several of my fellow club members, that Blackenit will NOT go down into the crevices of the tracks. So you’re left with little bare spots. Not true with black4track. And lets face it, its reusable. So thats a huge plus right there.
The Blackening solution that I have used in the past with excellent results is from Eastwood, and automotive finishing company.
It is for blackening nuts, bolts, and other assorted car parts. I comes in a 1 pint bottle (intended to be mixed with 2 parts water (deionized filtered water, not tap water), but I always use it straight.
It is reuseableand lasts a long time.
It is 16.99 per pint, and is worth every penny.
www.eastwood.com, just search the word ‘blackening’
