Hey, I’m working on a 1/35 scale black hawk, and i was doing a little detailing on the engine, and i was wondering if anybody had any good pictures of one, or knew where to find some. I tried google images, but there weren’t any good ones. Any help would be fully apreciated! Thanks!

Okay, so far, what I’ve pretty much done is add a few scratchbuilt details and wires, some found on refrence shots, and others just left up to my extensive overactive imagination. But i have a question… In all of the pictures I’ve seen of the engines, they’re always different. And I don’t mean like this one has a few more wires or something, but i mean DIFFERENT. Same original shape, but some lack a lot of details found on others an visa versa. I just wanted to know if there is a reson for this, or if it is just some sorta conspiracy to mess with my head…
Just a couple of points. The first link here is not a T700 series engine. The last link to the walk around provides some decent info. Some of the differences that you are seeing could be a result of the slightly different configuration between the engine installation on the right versus the left side (primarily the routing of the bleed air line for the starter on the right side coming over the top of the engine and the particle duct on the left side being outboard of the engine).
Here is a link that shows the engine on a stand without the duct installed.
Sorry if I led anyone astray. I know better than to post links to systems I don’t know that well. Could someone tell me what type of engine that link actually shows?

As an note, GE’s site claims the T700 can be found in all these aircraft:

Is it just the ducting that’s throwing me here or are there multiple variants of the engine?

I think what you are seeing most on in the picture posted is a “blower” and ducting, for what I don’t know, maybe to cool the exhaust. You can see the main engine case buried behind and below the “blower”. It looks to be taking bled air from the compressor section, small duct coming up under the green wire. This would be cold air and would make sense mixing with the exhaust gases and cooling them. Purely conjecture on my part! It ain’t a Huey!

Okay, here are some shots (not finished yet) but could you guys tell me what you think? It’s not completely accurate, I know. More of a compilation of different pictures I’ve seen. But is there anything really important to fix? Just wanna know if I’m relatively on track.

The only ones that I am not sure about are the AW101 and the NH90. The others all use the T700 series engine, although various models within the series. The M1 even uses the same basic engine!
In the picture, you are looking at the left engine on an Apache. The large duct (ips duct) is for the inlet particle separator. The bleed air tube below the green wire is for inlet anti-ice, at least it is on the Hawk and I imagine that it would be the same for an Apache.

The engine is looking pretty good. What comes in the kit is a pretty good starting point but some of the proportions are off, but that would really be getting into the nitty gritty, so I’ll just throw out a few ideas to help busy it up like a real engine.
You could use some wire or fine solder to represent fuel and sensor lines on the engine. The ips duct is made of fiberglass and is sort of a coffee color. On the foreward portion fo the engine there are four wire harnesses, green, yellow, blue and white (just don’t go crazy with them, they each only connect in a few places). You could easily just pick out a couple of items in black and use a couple of metal shades on the core engine and it would really pop!
I can’t do it now, but when the next phase starts, I’ll try to remember to get some shots of the engines on the stands.

Good eye on the Apache engine, I should have noticed the “wing” he was standing on. I was focused on the engine area. Couldn’t see the forest for the trees kinda thing!

Here are some pics of the installation in an AH-1W. As mentioned the duct on top as well as the exhaust heat shields on the back will differ depending what it is installed in and the left side of the engine is very different than the right. Seems most of my pictures are of the port side. The engine detail in the 1/35 MRC AH-1W looks better than the H-60 kit but I don’t know if they are scaled the same.

Hopefully I will post another update tonight, I’ve been hacking away at the engine, and I will post some pics before I paint any new peices…
Update: I’ve added some scratched parts, but nothing is really painted yet. I just want to get your guys oppions on if it is good or bad or incredilby inaccurate (hopefully not). I’ve painted some of the upper engine, the grey and brown, found in my refrence pics.
