BIG! super Frelon now w/ progress pics!

Papa-Echo- 64,
I also cut, folded and stowed the tail assembly for shipboard ops on mine as well. Made tie down straps for the amin rotors that go to the hull too. It came out looking pretty cool. I’ll try to post some photos when I get back home after the holidays.

Sounds cool Gino!

I thought about cutting the tail but I want to keep this less than a 3 month project! [:p]

I would like to see how and where those rotor straps were tied…any ideas?

I’m almost done with the cockpit…GEE!! 14 parts for just ONE seat alone!

I have been switching back and fourth between the Rotors, rotor head and the cockpit so I’m half way through the kit already!

I think thats more than half the kits parts right there!?

I’m still having fun! What a kit!! [:D]

Troy, I would love to see some progress pictures if possible.

Here are a few pics.

Sorry a little fuzzy.

Recognize the Huey layout with the dials?

Here is the main Rotor in three sections.

The Seats still have 5 more parts to go ‘each’

Troy, I got the dreaded red X’s.

I fixed it!

AHHH!!! I copied the pic addresses from my WORKING page and not the actual on-line page.

Very nice start Troy. I couldn’t have done it any better. The instrument panel is great.

Off to a “flying” start, Troy. Nice solid work on the seats and the instrument console. Keep us posted.

THANKS GUYS!! [:D]

I just noticed that the SEATS pic posted twice!.. fixed it.

I’m going over to my buddies place soon and have some REAL pics taken…these are way too fuzzy!

This baby is amphibious! far out!

Troy, The pictures you have posted look good to me.

THANKS GUYS! [:D]

So far, so great, Troy.
I, personally, can’t wait to see the finished bird.
Just remember who suggested that you to go for it on the USCG scheme. [:D] [8D] [;)] [:-^]

For Frelon detail shots, look out for a film called ‘The Beast’. It’s about a Russian tank crew in Afghanistan. In the end a Frelon comes to rescue them, There are quite a few close up shots of the Frelon, which may help you. By the by, it’s an Israeli Frelon, not sure what mark, painted up with red stars. There are another couple of films with the same name, so it could take some time to find.
Pete

Thanks Pete!

Its cool randie!..no sweat [:D]

Papa-Echo-64,
I tied the rope in the front to the tie-down shackle on the nose of the aircraft. The rear is tied to the support strut for the horizontal stabilizer of the folded tail section. The portion on the rotor blade is a piece of masking tape about 1/32 " wide painted orange that loosely goes around the rotor blade and then secures to the rope that is tied off to the fusalage. Hope this helps. Also, the tail fold was pretty easy. It is folded just like the photo of the SH-3 in the post here.

Thank you HeavyArty! [tup]

Troy,

You’ve probably already seen this website, but thought I’d pass it along anyhow, as it has some great info on the Super Frelon.

Thanks Frank…yep I do have those pics in my Favs…

Last night I printed some simular pics to use as test drawings for the paint scheme for the USCG colors…its gonna look so cool! [8D]

Howdy Fellas,

New guy here, name’s Tread.

A pal of mine HeavyArty (Gino) turned me on to this thread (and this site).
I came across the exact same kit at my LHS just yesterday. The 1/35th scale Heller/Humbrol Super Frelon, and have read this thread with interest!

I have several project’s in the work’s at the moment, but, being a big fan of large scale helo kits…I’m going to LOVE this one!
AND…Papa-Echo. I really enjoyed reading about your build-up, and must say your final result looks superb!! I can only hope I do half as good a job on mine…

Any and all input that might help me along on my ‘Frelon’ quest would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,

Tread.
