Its been a while, there’s been some delays, but all back on track now (sorry Sean mate).
Some inconsiderate individual saw fit to release the game ‘Silent Hunter III’ a little while back and unfortunately the Mig (and the missus) has taken second place for a while [:o)]
62,000 tonnes of merchant shipping sunk so far [8D]
anyway - I digress,
Some further progress on the Revell 1/32 Mig, The majority of the paintwork is nearing completion. I recently dumped my trusty Humbrol enamels in favour of recently discovering Lifecolour Acrylics, and I’m very glad I did !
Odourless painting, thinned with water - lovely [:D] I’m finally getting accustomed to the new airbrush too, I’m rapidly becoming a very big fan of Acrylics now [:)]
Anyhoo - I still need to practise my photography skills too …
I shamelessly nicked this idea from Narita’s wonderful Flanker build - the optical sight is actually a metal bead from a bathroom plug chain [;)]
Wow John
Thats coming along brilliantly , I wish i got the aftermarket stuff for mine [BH],
Mind you just got a airbrush myself now
Anyway looking great keep those pictures coming
This MiG looks outstanding. I would really like to check out those LifeColor paints. I use thier weathering products and I am really impressed with them. Again, a beautiful model you’ve got there.
Stunningly well done. I’ve got the same kit I’m finishing. I decided to tackle the final flight Mig using the Cutting edge decal sheet. It’s the scheme with the arch flags on each side of the forward fueselage and the huge upper and lower wing decals. They took me a week to work on! Very very thin. I noticed you covered up the engine louvres. Did you use card stock? I should have done that to mine but I’m a bit thick headed.
How did you accent the panel lines? I’m thinking of using an oil wash.
Steve - I thoroughly recommend these paints, I’ll be sticking with them now - its a nice change to use pains that don’t smell and can be thinned with water.
Neil - The intake doors are all actually a single sheet of styrene card - I cut out the whole section and replaced with a single slab of 2 mil thick styrene card, lots of sanding and filling to remove the seams and join marks, then I rescribed the doors into the card. I found it to be a simpler way than to try and cut 10 small doors to shape and get them to stick down!
The panel lines aren’t done yet, that will be done last of all when the future coat is on - they just look accentuated at the moment due to the pre-shading [;)]
Skii(or is Gunther Prien) the big Mig looks great.
Welcome to the world of acrylics. If you like the Lifecolor paints you’ll would love Gunze acrylics. These really are the best IMHO, even if TAHS nolonger sell them.
I tried convincing them to stock them again a while back, but no joy
