great link thanks for sharing!

Is there more than one Big Beautiful Doll flying? Back in July 2005 there was one flying at the Walney Airshow here in the U.K. Accompanied by a Mustang called Janie; they made a pass in which their gunbarrels made a sound like organ pipes.

My favourite part was when they both flew along the crowd line, either side of a B-17 called Sally B.

DUnno about the UK, but Lander’s Big Beautiful Doll is probably the most popular warbird scheme there is (kinda like the models of P-51s too) in the US… At Kissemee, Fla. one year, I saw three BBDs in attendance, although one had it’s markings incomplete… The serial number, kill marks and squadron codes had yet to be applied…

There were also two copies of Bud Anderson’s “Old Crow” Mustang, as well as three “from” the 55th FG/343rd FS (including ours)…

A fellow by the name of Shipley used to own a BBD along with a Corsair. He used to keep them at the Chester County Airport. I saw them at a show in New Garden. Took a few photos of them. Heard a few months ago that he sold the BBD and bought some type of jet aircraft. No one around here seems to know just what kind of jet he bought. Probably find out at the next New Garden Air Show.

Nothing sounds better then a Merlin.

Agreed, although the Mustang’s Packard-Rolls sounds quite different from a RR Merlin in a Spitfire (Haven’t heard it in a Hurricane)… I’m pretty sure that it’s the props and exhaust-stacks that make the major differences in the two sounds, but I can tell them apart quite easily when I hear them…
