Hello, I did this build for the fun… picked up the kit at Downeast Con… 1/48 Scale, Academy Kit. .it looked like all the parts were there when I opened the box, but it was missing the correct prop, 1 flap, and the cowl carb scoop…
I reshaped the wooden prop as best I could and attached it to the metal spinner, scratched a scoop from card stock, and same for the flap…
I did a light wash, and mild weathering… from the few pics I saw, this plane was usualy clean, or did not get much weathering in the field…
Superb, ol’ buddy. I remember seeing this version in an old aircraft profile booklet 'way too many years ago. I like the clean, crisp look to your Bf-109. I don’t want to marry it, but dinner and a movie would certainly be possible! [:D]
As for the kit, it was nice… easy build, good detail,( but not alot of extras) some other options are provided to build a C and other D’s, mainly exhausts. It fit nice and the detail was crisp, I did have to rescribe the panel lines on the belly and spine after sanding and putting the seem, not a major deal. It also has other decal choices, including a Mickey Mouse emblem, that was my original reason for picking up the kit. But after I looked over the choices, I went with this scheme… I also added hypodermic needle gun barrels, as this kit came with none for the cowl.
I used model master acrylics( I’m not an acrylic fan) , washed with Pro Modeler wash, Tamiya pastels for exhaust, and then Testors dullcote… (IMHO) the best dullcote to use…
PS… some have commented about the Landing gear looked a bit more splayed than normal… after comparing it to another 2 109s I have, it was…
there was some flexing in the join between the LG and wing, so I pulled them in a bit, dabbed some CA then hit it with an accelrator… that seemed to fix it… [Y]
