Best WWII Naval Documentary DVDs?

What do you recommend as the best WWII Naval Documentary DVDs? For reference material, or just plain enjoyment.

I have the National geographic “The Battle For Midway” The Discovery of the U.S.S. Yorktown, and it is excellent. I passed on the National Geographic “Pearl Harbor” one as most reviews said it was lousy.

If your into Royal Navy there is a series running now (eventually on DVD if it isn’t already) on the Canadian History Channel called “Battlefleet”. And that is pretty good too.

Any other recommendations?

Try the following websites. The first has a several DVDs and VHS videos.
The second is mostly VHS stuff. I know your request is DVD, but it seems that most of what is out there is still in the VHS format.

Hi Gip! Thanks! Actually I am aware that there is a ton of stuff out there. What I am looking for is commendations as to which ones are good. From what I have heard there is a lot of rubish out there so I trying to avoid buying those ones. More money for models and paint that way. LOL!

If the Victory at Sea series is on DVD that would a great item for your collection.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity I did a Google search and found that there is a Victory at Sea set which can be easily obtained at a rather large bookseller online.

Victory at Sea - definitely

While at our local airshow, I picked up a VHS box set called ‘Tigers of the Sea’. It was only $20, and the box said it was the history of naval combat in WW2…

I didn’t expect much, but wow, lots and lots of footage I’ve never seen.

Sometimes you get lucky.

I have the National Geographic documentary “The Lost Ships of Guadalcanal” and it is excellent. I also have the book that goes along with it. Lots of good information on the Solomons campaign.

My favorite was the History Channel’s Weapons of War series named Battleships. Still not a DVD yet though.

I was going to echo the others on Victory at Sea. Glad you got it. Now I want one on DVD. Christmas is coming quickly though. That other set sounds very intriguing.

Yeah, not much info on it. Don’t want to fork out for it if it’s one of the many that are lousey transfers, poor sound, etc…

Still searching though.

also check the ads in "naval history " magazine they sell acutal naval films that have been transfered to vhs & dvd.these sometimes show great detail of various naval warships

I’ve come across a series by Ken Burn on DVD, t’s call “Battleships”. Have not gotten it yet, not comments until I see it myself, heard t’s not too bad.
