Opinions? Looking for a down the road kit to build after I finish up some jets…Daughter was born on the 12th anniversary of the Challenger disaster, so I want to build her a Shuttle. I’ve seen some vintage R/M kits on EBay for not too much money…has anyone ever built one?
What scale? I believe the two better scales are 1/72 or 1/144 for the shuttle. In 1’72 scale it was basically the Revell or the Monogram kit. but since the two of them merged, I do not know which kit is the one that gets reissued.
This is a breakdown of the 1/144 scale ones, but it is dated.www.spaceinminiature.com/…/sts_table.html

Isn’t there a 1/200 Hasegawa kit?
Yes, I built the 1/200 Hasegawa kit last year.
Best Overall 1/144 kit is Airfix.
Best Overall 1/72 kit is Monogram
The Hasegawa kit is great at 1/200
If building Challenger, and you just want to build the orbiter only (no boosters or tank), then go with the 1/100 Tamiya kit. It has some nice details molded into it that are representative of the early orbiters. The only major corrections you would need to make are adding some thin wire to the engine bells to make more accurate fuel lines, and clear plastic for the windows instead of the blue-tinted windows that come with the kit.
