The Alclad II system is very good but for a different twist on the NMF, I spray the model with Model Master Gloss Black and then when dry to the touch, I rub in SnJ Aluminum Powder with a Q-Tip. Weathering is kept to a minimum but the finish can be decalled without a gloss coat and the sheen is varied by polishing with a soft cloth until you get the desired results
A great way to do a metal finish is to use Model Master’s Aluminum Non-Buffing Metalizer and Model Master’s Aluminum Plate Buffing Metalizer in a 1:1 mix. Both are classified Metalizer Laquer and already ready for the airbrush. I’ve had great results with it…but I got a the tip from a master!!
I attended a NMF forum at the Nats this year. The gentleman conducting the forum (can’t recall his name) got beautiful results with Floquil silver and SNJ powder. Lots of good methods but some are tricky and/or difficult to use, the Floquil seemd easy to get fool-proof results with.
You may want to investigate this. I have done several nmf aircraft using kitchen foil and Mona Lisa Gold Leaf size as an adhesive. There is a learnign curve, but thge results are well worth the extra effort, IMHO.
Wooty, I use Alclad II… No polishing, no buffing. The only downside is you have to buy paints for each individual shade. But it’s very easy to apply, just airbrush it on.
Max… while that is true, and until I finish my supply of all the different colors of Alclad I have [;)], I will keep doing that, there is another different method to get a panel color variation. You can also get a variation in tone by masking off panels and laying down different colors, like black and grays, before spraying the Alclad.
Best and the least expensive is to use Floquil Old silver with Testors Metalizers .The Metalizers as various panels with non-Buff color last.Seal with a good gloss or seme-Matt finish.Graphite powder can be Buffed in to creat special effects.Metal finish the natural award winning way.
