I know of alot of kits that are around for the P-51 in all scales and variations. I was just curious on which one kit is the best. I have only bought the revell kit and I like it its OK I guess. Go ahead and list your fav. kit in all scales and variations!!
4 of the last 7 planes I’ve built have been 1/48 Tamiya Mustangs… 3 D’s and a B. And I love that model. Goes together really nicely and there is a ton of aftermarket stuff to really pile into it. Some corrections need to be made to the flaps if shown lowered and not using AM parts, but it s pretty simple stuff.
Forget the Revell kit…
Tamiya D and B are both fantastic…the Hasegawa D is fantastic…ANY Accurate Miniatures P-51 is fantastic…
Buy any one of those three makes and you’ll not be disappointed.
I’ve built the Tamiya 1/72 P-51D and it’s excellent. In fact, if you can find Fine Scale Modeler May 2001 issue, there is a report and comments about all the P-51s buid by various compnaies.
The B and C model are older AM kits from a few years back. Look on ebay they are usually a few there. I got my A, B and C all together in one lot. The boxes all look the same, and yes I guess they do have kinda black boxes. The B and C are as good as the A.
I like the Tamiya kits best. Hasegawa are good and AM have excellent detail but more work required to get a good build.
The best deal out there is the ICM Mustangs. They are direct copys of the Tamiya kits but sell for around $15 instead of $25. I bought both the C and D a couple of days ago. Can’t tell them from my Tamiya originals.
