I usually model sci-fi subjects but I have always liked this helo. Can you guys tell me who makes the best overall kit of the Mi-24? I don’t even know what scales are available. I want to pick one up for a future build. Thanks for the advice in advance!
Best overall would be the 1/35 scale kit from Trumpeter, but it is large and expensive.
The Monogram kit in 1/48 is old and out-of-production, but can still build up into a respectable representation of the Hind. There’s also a bunch of resin upgrades tooled for it by Cobra Company (see the other recent thread here). The kit routinely pops up on ebay and in model trader forums.
Those are my recommendations. Supposedly, there is a Trumpeter 1/48 Hind-F, but I’ve never seen it, and I don’t know much about 1/72 because I don’t build in that scale.
the Italeri 1/72 scale Hind kits are pretty good detail wise especially the troop bay. I’ll have to check on the possible 1/48 scale Trumpeter Hind seeing as thats news to me. But hopefully it would be as detailed as the 1/35 scale version.
The 1/48 Trumpeter Hind is actually from MiniHobby. Trumpeter was reselling these for a while. I have one, and the spruces and details are similar to the Revell kit. One difference is that MiniHobby (Trumpeter) produced a Mi-24P Hind F, that is the one with the big double barrel gun on the starboard side. Note that the only store that seems to carry it is http://www.hobbysurplus.com.
