Best Me 262 B-1a/U1

Hello, can anyone tell me who makes the best kit of the Me262 nightfighter? I have the revell history maker kit and to tell the truth I’m more than a little disappointed at the lack of detail including the raised panel lines. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks T.L.

in 1/72 the new revell series me-262 is the best, in 1/48 tamiya is considerd the best. an other option in 1/48 would be dragon or the italeri reboxing of the dragon kit.

Oh, that Revell kit is ancient! [;)]

Dunno which scale you prefer, but right now the nicest would be DML/Dragon’s Me 262B in 48th. Hasegawa’s 72nd kit isn’t too bad.

If you can find the limited edition Hasegawa 32nd kit it’s the best currently available in 32nd. But you have to do a bunch of cutting, as it’s based on the single seater kit with no retooling; just new parts. This kit is quite difficult to find, though.

If braille scale is really what you want and if you can wait a bit, Trumpeter has announced a 262 in 32nd, albeit a single seater. But I think that their releasing a 2-seater would be probable…

And if you want it really big, MPM makes a 1/16 kit of the me-262. Yes, that’s right one to sixteen scale!!

Actually that MPM kit is 1/18, but now I’m getting technical… [:p]

Got to see one of these back when it was first released and it was quite… large! However, he’s looking for an Me 262B and I don’t think MPM did a 2-seater, did they?

In case some of you haven’t seen this monster kit…

oef, I stand corrected!

Oh my bad, I meant to specify 1/32 scale. Does Hasa make one in that scale?

You guys rock. Man what did modelers do before the internet! [:D] T.L.

Oh sorry I just read the bit about the Hasegawa kit. Gosh I’d hate to have to do any major scratchuilding. Any other options other than prayin for a trumpeter miracle? T.L.

Yeah, Hasegawa has a 262 in 32nd but it’s a bummer that you have to do some cutting for the 2-seater. Although it’s not the greatest kit, it’s much better than Revell’s.

Again, the Hasegawa 32nd Me 262B is difficult to find because they released it as part of their… I forget the name of the series but it was a limited edition kit.

We can only hope that Trumpeter does a 2-seater or, more ideally, that Hasegawa follows up their new-tool 109s and 190s with some new-tool 262s. Matter of fact, that’s been a prediction of mine for some time and I’m sticking to it…

And I have to agree with you… what did we do before the internet?

The best 2 seater currently available is the Dragon/Dml in 1/48. It’s a very nice kit & not overly difficult to build. I think it may be a long wait for one in 1/32.

Here’s my build of the DML kit, it comes with PE and is an excellent kit, I highly recommend it:
There are markings for three different aircraft with different camo schemes.

Steve

Awesome kit Steve, Thanks for the info. Does eduard make a P.E. for the 262 nightfighter? That would go a ways to helping make the kit a little better. T.L.

I just saw Frogs Me 262, How does that one compare to hasegawas 1/32 Me 262? Anybody know? I’m looking to do the conversion with the JRutman set and I wanna know if the the Frog kit is better than the Hase’ one. Thanks T.L.

deathbringer,

I built the Revell 1/32 scale Me 262B-1a/U1 years ago and it was OK for such an old kit, sure it had raised panel lines but they were not overdone. The Me 262 had very few panel lines anyway, most panel joints were filled with putty and smoothed out. For most models of the Me 262 that have recessed panel lines it is not a very accurate feature.

Here is a pic of my Revell Me 262B

The Revell 1/32 scale kit might not be as accurate as the Hasegawa kit but it might be easier find since it was made in larger numbers than Hasegawa’s kit.

Thanks Matrix0ne, Great info on the 262. I may reconsider my options. The model looks great. I guess the mitigating factor would be the quality and ease of assembly of JRutmans conversion kit.
Mike I would be willing to pay shipping but I’m holding out for the hasegawa version thanks for the link though. Thanks Guys. T.L.
