What is the best and most accurate 1/35th scale Tiger I kit out there to represent the Bovington Tank museum’s Tiger 131 as seen in the upcoming “Fury” movie? DML/Dragon? If so, which kit? Thank you
I believe that Tiger 131 is a Tunisian Tiger.Dragon-Cyber Hobby has # 6286,good luck getting that one.Tamiya has # 35227 which is readily available.
Now as for the movie,I don’t know what modifications they made on it to be in europe as depicted in the movie
Tojo72 is correct on Tiger 131, it was captured by the Brits in North Africa, brought back to the UK for evaluation and is now maintained by the Tank Museum at Bovington. my understanding is that “Fury” depicts the war in Germany during 1945, which would infer that the Tigers these men face would be later models.
As Tojo says, it deepens what modifications they made to 131. One still I found seems to look as though the feifel air cleaners have been removed but the old style commanders hatch is still there. If the air cleaners were the only change, then any of the early production kits will do the job. You could go for the Tamiya kit 35216, I am not sure of the code for any Dragon kits that would fit.
Or it could be a Tiger brought back to Germany for rebuild/overhaul. In 1945, that would not be such a far stretch as everything that was available to fight with was used. Germany truly was scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Here is a still from filming of the movie and 131 does not appear to have been modified for filming. Early type road wheels and cupola are plainly visible.
That the photo I was looking at SP, and it looks to me as thought the air cleaners have been remove.
Ah yes, no Fiefels. Just the exhausts are visible.
http://www.tiger-tank.com/ is dedicated to this particular Tiger and has extensive information on the tank and her restoration. Note the unique step welded to her frontal armor - it’s not typical of the Tiger series and seems to be unique to this tank. Also, search around - there’s a rather notable photo of the Bovington Tiger after her capture which shows Winston Churchill standing on her engine deck to inspect the fording snorkel which was extended fully at the time of his visit.
Dragon will release a kit dedicated to portraying Tiger “131”, just as she was in German service. If any modifications were made for the movie, that will be your problem.

Have a look for the Haynes Manual for the Tiger, its the full rebuild of 131 from Bovington and has lots of photos of the tank in all stages of completion.

The New Dragon Tiger-1 Early Production Wittmann’s Command Tiger #6730 would probably come as close as you can get. It has all the parts you would need to build 131 as long as you have a reference to follow. And it has the new one piece track. It was just released this year.
One piece track? I have not heard of this. Off to Google I go.
Edit: Are you talking about those “DS” tan rubber tracks? I am still trying to figure out how to get paint to stick to them without it rubbing off lol. I’ve sprayed mine with Krylon to see if that makes a difference.
If Dragon releases a Tiger 131 it would be a cyberhobby kit, for around 80 to 90 USD dollars I’m guessing. Having the same problem with my DS tracks, in some spots the paint flakes off. Only seems to happen when your fitting them on the tank. Have the same problem with Tamiya’s rubber tracks.
Wow,that’s surprising,I have built five kits with DS.I have used acrylic and enamels and as of yet have had no trouble with paint or glue.Same for the newer Tamiya Tracks,no problems.
I’m not crazy about them, but I’m not spending extra money for AM tracks.Once in awhile I spring for Fruils, but in most cases I use what’s in the kit.
You have to wash with soap and then use a primer most definitely for any chance of paint sticking.
And there is a video of Tiger 131 at a show on youtube. Just search Tiger 131

Just announced. DML’s Tiger 131. Release date June 2015. MSRP US$80
Hello,
I am confused…
Do you want to build #131 Bovington?
131 as it was equipped in Tunisia?
The T1 as it is depicted in the movie?
A T1 as it would look in 44-45? Villers-Bocage?
What is the aim, build the Hollywood one or build a representation of what would have been a more likely version?
Very Best Regards
Johan
