A customer wants me to build him an IDF M1 Sherman w/76mm high velocity gun from the Six Day War, June '67, time period. It looks like the below pics.
Does anyone know what kit or kit combos/conversions would be best to make this? All I can find is the Academy M51 model and that has the wrong gun. Any ideas?
Dragon and Academy have both done M51 Isherman kits. Why not take the hull from one of those and an aftermarket late T23 turret by Verlinden or other maker? Then just swap out any turret fittings you need such as teh smoke mortars.
You might consider the 1/35 Dragon No. 6083 kit of their M4A1(76)W as a starting point. The M1 appeared with either VVSS or HVSS suspension.
Doing some checking with a little help from another forum, it looks like I need to combine the Dragon M4A3E8 “Thunderbolt IV” kit and the M4A1(76)W “Op Cobra” kit, and add T80 tracks to make it work. Off to place an order.
