Best Colour for Inside of Spray Booth?

Best Colour for Inside of Spray Booth?

O.K. I am building my Spray Booth. 24" x 24" x 48" out of 1/2" plywood. When done, I will be painting it with Tremclad High Heat Enamel. Supposedly good up to 600 degrees centigrade (1200 fahrenheit). It’s the stuff you use for BBQs, Fireplaces, Wood Stoves, etc…). I am using this as I figure if I can’t avoid the possibility of a fire completely, then I can at least minimize it.

The only thing is that all they (the place I went to) had was flat black in the can.

I figure that’s fine for the outside, but will probably be to dark for the inside.

Any suggestions for what would be the best colour(s) for the inside?

I am thinking the lighter the better, but am not sure.

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance,

James

Doesn’t really matter. The inside of the booth will eventually be covered in paint, so why worry about what it’s going to look like for the first month? JMHO.

Sorry, should have indicated that it is not for aesthetic purposes. I figure black will be to dark to see what I am doing properly. I guess I am looking for opinions on which colours would be the best in order for the model to stand out so i can see it better. What best neutral colour is what I am getting at.
I know it will eventually be muticoloured.

Sorry for the assumption, James. No intent to offend.
Most professional booths are a lighter color, and several I’ve seen a red. Go with what’s easiest on the eyes. You should be able to find a Gloss Red High Heat paint, or even an appliance paint would do the trick, such as what’s used to paint fridge’s and stuff. Several light colors to choose from, too.

That’s O.k. No offense taken.

I was thinking white or grey or ???. Didn’t think of red though.
Would definately stand out as a conversation piece. LOL!

Might be a bit bright (colour wise, not bright as in light wise) for me though.

Thanks again for the response.

James, gloss white wokrs well for me.

I say white also. It will make the light you have brighter to see what you are doing better.

Mike

Thanks everyone! Well, white seems to be the most popular suggestion. And it was on my short list, so will go with that. Hopefully, they have it in High Heat Enamel.

Thanks again,

James check your local automotive store for engine or exaust paint. You might have a few more color selections. Also did you see my reply on your last post about lining it with metal flashing? You could leave it bare metal or paint it white and it would give you plenty of reflectivity that way too. Anyway, just my suggestions.

Eric

James, here is a mail order site for auto racing equipment. http://www.summitracing.com/. They have a wide variety of paint for engines and exhaust both. There is a silver paint for exhaust headers which I have used (on cars). I dont know if it would be too reflective for your booth or not. Good luck [:D]

James,

Why not build that booth out of that 1/2 particle board that’s covered with that hard, white material that is similar to formica?

That way it would be easy to clean. I don’t know how fire retardant it is though.

Mike

Thanks guys! Yeah, didn’t think of that stuff. Already bought the plywood and am 3/4s done on the assembly. Lots of banging into walls and furniture, drilling, wood filler, sanding, etc… Landlord must be saying “what the heck is he doing up there?” LOL!

Great fun though.
